THE POSITION
The Department of Transportation, Engineering District 1 is searching for a Transportation Construction Inspector who is eager to support safe and successful highway projects. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role supports transportation construction projects by inspecting work, materials, and documentation to ensure compliance with approved plans and standards. As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:
- Construction Inspection: Inspect all phases of highway construction work and verify adherence to plans and specifications
- Material Monitoring: Observe placement of cement concrete, bituminous concrete, and drainage materials
- Field Testing: Provide compaction testing of soils, aggregates, and related sub-surface materials
- Project Documentation: Complete diary entries, calculations, and reports through manual or electronic methods
- Communication Coordination: Interact with agencies, legislators, and the public to support project administration
- Problem Resolution: Assist with resolving field issues and tracking project progress through sketches and summaries
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Vendor controlled work schedule, hours may vary.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time/seasonally adhoc, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Oil City. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
- Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
- One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
