Respiratory Therapist (RT)

As a Respiratory Therapist (RT) in the United States, you will play a critical role in assessing, treating, and caring for patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders. Your expertise will directly impact patient outcomes by providing respiratory care through therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. You will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans. This role requires continuous monitoring and adjustment of respiratory equipment and treatments to ensure optimal patient comfort and safety. Minimum Qualifications: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program. Current and valid Respiratory Therapist (RT) license or certification as required by the state of practice. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Proficiency in operating respiratory care equipment and performing diagnostic tests. Strong understanding of respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Preferred Qualifications: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Advanced certifications such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Experience working in critical care, emergency, or neonatal intensive care units. Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and healthcare documentation software. Strong communication and patient education skills. Responsibilities: Evaluate patients' respiratory status by conducting diagnostic tests such as arterial blood gas analysis and pulmonary function tests. Administer prescribed respiratory therapies including oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and mechanical ventilation support. Monitor and adjust ventilators and other respiratory equipment to maintain effective patient ventilation and oxygenation. Educate patients and their families on respiratory care techniques, equipment use, and disease management strategies. Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop, implement, and modify individualized respiratory care plans based on patient progress. Respond promptly to respiratory emergencies and provide life-saving interventions as needed. Maintain accurate and detailed patient records documenting treatments, responses, and clinical observations. Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and safety standards in all respiratory care procedures. Skills: In daily work, the required skills enable the Respiratory Therapist to accurately assess patient respiratory function and deliver appropriate treatments safely and effectively. Proficiency with respiratory equipment and diagnostic tools ensures timely interventions and adjustments to therapy plans.
