Responsibilities The RN’s practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN records patients’ medical history and symptoms, helps perform diagnostic tests, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and assists with patient follow‑up and rehabilitation. The RN establishes a care plan or contributes to an existing plan, including medication administration, IV line management, therapy administration, observation, and consultation with physicians. The RN teaches patients and families self‑management skills, diet, nutrition, and exercise, and supervises licensed practical nurses and nursing aides when appropriate. The RN supports continuing education, precepts new hires, and seeks to advance clinical knowledge. Essential Functions Collect health data systematically, prioritize data collection, involve family, and analyze assessment data to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise a family‑centered, evidence‑based care plan. Identify individualized outcomes and develop corresponding plans of care that are family‑centered and culturally relevant. Implement interventions, initiate treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on standing orders and policies, and provide care meeting the physical, emotional, spiritual, and social‑cultural needs of patients and families. Evaluate patients’ progress, document observations and interventions, and provide ongoing quality assessment of the care plan. Evaluate nursing practice against professional standards, statutes, and regulations, maintaining current knowledge and systematically assessing practice quality. Integrate ethical principles, cultural competence, and diversity considerations into practice. Collaborate with colleagues, peers, and the multidisciplinary team to foster professional development, mentor, and model quality practice. Partner with the multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care delivery. Develop and evaluate evidence‑based standards of care, identify necessary practice changes, and apply systematic research to improve outcomes. Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost when planning and delivering patient care, utilizing resources efficiently. Education Other / Certificate: All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire or have 5+ years of RN experience (direct or indirect) at hire. (Required) Associates or Diploma in Nursing: All staff with direct responsibility for stroke patients must refer to the stroke addendum for specific education requirements – PRIOR TO START. (Required) Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN): Preferred. Experience Other: >10 months in a med‑surg or acute specialty setting. (Required) 1 year RN experience for all float positions. (Required) Licenses and Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) – certification required. (Required) Registered Nurse (RN) – State of Arizona license or state compact license upon hire.
