Tax Principal (New York)

The Tax Principal role entails working closely with the Tax Executive Director and service providers to manage all tax aspects of the Private Markets business including private equity, co-investments, infrastructure, secondaries, and real estate.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinate with others to manage the Global tax compliance process for investment partnerships and accounts managed by the firm including Federal and State tax reporting.
2. Lead tax process improvement projects using different tax technology solutions while collaborating with various Departments with a high focus on increasing efficiency and risk management.
3. Assist with the carry plan tax reporting and compliance, including estimates, with a focus on accuracy and confidentiality; communicate effectively and appropriately with carry plan investors.
4. Communicate regularly with Fund Finance and Treasury executives to implement strategies designed to improve the transfer of information between groups, including the tracking, booking, and processing of tax payments and refunds.
5. Work closely with the Tax Executive Director on tax structuring for various clients of different tax profiles.
6. Research tax technical issues and articulate findings in a manner suitable for the audience.
7. Work with service providers to stay abreast of legislative and regulatory tax changes and communicate tax developments to management team.
8. Review tax deliverables with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
9. Draft client correspondence and participate in communications with clients, as needed.
10. Review fund structures of underlying private equity fund investments for domestic and foreign entities and identify tax filing and income reporting requirements.
11. Review partnership allocations of income for investment partnerships and issue K-1s to investors.
12. Perform related duties as assigned including handling tax notices, updating tax forms, responding to investment tax questionnaires.

EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

1. 7-10 years public and/or private tax experience required, preferably a public/private mix.
2. Proficient user in Microsoft Excel with the ability to efficiently manage large datasets required.
3. Expertise in federal and state returns for domestic and foreign partnerships and corporations.
4. Expertise in international tax including experience with PFICs, CFCs, ECI/FDAP/FIRPTA withholding.
5. Experience with carry calculations for both book and tax preferred, but not required.
6. Experience with FATCA/CRS reporting a plus.
7. Experience with Alteryx, Power Automate, or Power BI a plus.
8. Strong organizational/project management skills and detail-oriented mindset.
9. Excellent communication skills - both written and oral.
10. Demonstrated initiative and ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment.

It is expected that the annual base salary range for this New York City-based position will be $150,000 - $185,000. Actual base salary may vary based on factors such as individual's experience, skills, and qualifications for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on factors such as individual, team, and company performance as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
