Sand Blaster / Monument Designer

Pay: $25–$30 per hour

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM

Experience: 1–2 years preferred

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sand Blaster / Monument Designer to join our monument production team. This position is responsible for both the design and execution of stone memorials , including creating custom layouts, preparing and applying stencils, and operating sandblasting equipment to etch names, dates, lettering, and decorative designs onto stone surfaces.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years of experience in sandblasting, monument production, stone engraving, or a related field , along with strong stencil skills, attention to detail, artistic ability, and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

Key Responsibilities Design & Layout

• Create and prepare custom monument designs, including names, dates, lettering, artwork, and decorative elements.

• Interpret customer specifications and design layouts accurately.

• Use stencils and templates to prepare designs for production.

Stencil Preparation & Application

• Prepare, cut, position, and apply stencils according to specified layouts and cut lines.

• Ensure proper alignment, spacing, and placement of stencils before blasting.

• Carefully inspect stencils for accuracy to prevent errors during the etching process.

• Must be comfortable and proficient working with stencils.

Stone Handling

• Safely load, unload, and position stone monuments on production racks.

• Handle stone pieces that may weigh approximately 50–200 lbs.

• Follow proper lifting and material-handling procedures.

Sandblasting

• Operate sandblasting equipment in a blast booth to etch lettering, designs, and artwork into stone.

• Control blasting depth and technique to achieve consistent, precise results.

• Follow established production procedures and safety requirements.

Quality Control

• Verify stencil placement against approved layouts before blasting.

• Inspect etched stones for accuracy, depth, alignment, and overall quality.

• Identify and correct production issues when possible.

• Maintain consistent quality standards on every monument.

Post-Etching Work

• Remove stencils after blasting.

• Clean and prepare etched stones for finishing, lettering, painting, or shipment.

• Keep work areas, tools, and equipment clean and organized.

Teamwork & Production

• Work closely with designers, production staff, and management to meet deadlines and specifications.

• Communicate clearly regarding design questions, production issues, or potential errors.

• Maintain an efficient workflow while producing high-quality finished work.

Qualifications & Skills

• 1–2 years of experience in sandblasting, monument production, stone engraving, sign production, or a related field preferred.

• Strong stencil experience is required.

• Ability to read and follow layouts, measurements, and design specifications.

• Experience operating sandblasting equipment preferred.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Good artistic sense and ability to work with lettering and decorative designs.

• Ability to safely lift, move, and position stone weighing approximately 50–200 lbs.

• Comfortable standing and working for extended periods.

• Ability to work independently while also being an effective team member.

• Strong commitment to safety, quality, and craftsmanship.

Work Environment

• Monument production facility with designated sandblasting/blast booth areas.

• Work involves standing for extended periods and handling heavy stone materials.

• Exposure to dust, noise, abrasive blasting materials, and varying lighting conditions.

• Personal protective equipment (PPE) and established safety procedures are required.

• Tools and equipment include sandblasting guns, blast equipment, stencils, racks, cleaning supplies, design templates, and related production equipment.

Compensation & Schedule

Pay: $25.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience and skill level.

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM.
