Associate Engineering Principal

HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group is seeking an Associate Engineering Principal to join our Colorado team in Denver, Colorado. The role is a key leadership position within our integrated Architecture/Engineering practice, engaging architectural and engineering designers early to inform conceptual design, and leading multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high‑quality designs. Your primary duties Play a significant role in business development efforts and grow HDR’s market share in specific A/E markets using your expertise and professional network. Provide senior‑level project leadership in your engineering discipline and areas of market expertise. Business Development Build and maintain executive‑level client relationships and serve as Client Manager for key/strategic accounts. Develop and execute market sector strategies, identify target clients, and high‑value expansion opportunities. Lead go/no‑go evaluations, pursuit strategy, and proposal development for strategic and must‑win opportunities. Collaborate with HDR Architecture and Engineering teams on project pursuits. Participate in discipline‑level and project‑level scope/fee development for project pursuits. Participate in project interviews as an engineering leader. Assist in successfully attracting, recruiting and hiring outstanding new team members to grow and strengthen the practice. Represent HDR through active participation in the professional community to build HDR’s reputation as a world‑class provider of professional services. Perform other duties as needed for the advancement of HDR’s stature and market penetration. Project Leadership Demonstrate exceptional leadership and set/maintain the standard of practice for world‑class project execution. Take roles as Project Manager and/or Senior Engineer on selected projects. Serve as a senior technical advisor to multiple projects involving complex technical challenges. Conduct QC and technical reviews and provide guidance on active projects. Mentor and coach team members on the nuances of your professional market(s). Preferred Qualifications Excellent leadership and organizational skills. Degree in Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering is preferred. Substantial engineering experience, project history, and professional network in Colorado and beyond in one or more of the following market sectors: higher education, hospitality/hotels, healthcare, aerospace, commercial real estate, mission‑critical facilities, aviation. Natural predisposition to, and demonstrable experience and success in, architecture/engineering business development in Colorado. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. 15 years related experience. Minimum 7 years project management experience. Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng)). MS Office and MS Project experience are required (Access experience would be plus). Demonstrated leadership, business development, and strategic planning skills.
