Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, Advanced Fetal Monitoring, BLS, COVID Vaccine Required, NRP Must-Have: C-section experience is required for circulating during procedures. Scrubbing experience is preferred. Floating to postpartum is mandatory; postpartum staff will not float to labor and delivery. Description: This position is for a labor and delivery unit with 14 beds and 6 triage beds. There are 2 OR suites and 28 postpartum beds. The unit typically handles 250 births per month. Certifications required include ACLS, BLS, Advanced Fetal Monitoring for labor and delivery, and NRP for postpartum. The nurse-patient ratio is 2 to 1 for laboring patients, following guidelines. Couplet care ratio is 1 to 4. Fetal monitoring system is Fetal Link and EMR is Cerner. Charge nurses typically do not take patient assignments. Nurse aides or OB techs are available for both day and night shifts. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. There is no on-call requirement, but standby may be necessary. Holidays will be incorporated into the permanent staff rotation. Nurses will wear navy scrubs in postpartum and seal blue scrubs provided for labor and delivery. There are no ventilators, but respiratory therapists are available 24/7. Pharmacy services are also available around the clock. Shifts are 12 hours, either from 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM. Floating to postpartum is expected, while postpartum nurses will not float to labor and delivery. Common patient diagnoses include any gestational age, antepartum cases, high risk deliveries, substance abuse issues, pre-eclampsia, and insulin-dependent diabetes. The cancellation policy allows for the possibility of up to 4 shifts being canceled during the assignment. Charting is conducted using the Cerner system.
