Materials Management Specialist

Position Overview Materials Management Specialist – Vehicle Driver II, San Antonio, TX Department: Region 8 Administration, Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) Key Responsibilities Responsibilities include assembly, repair, delivery/pick‑up, and installation of equipment, furniture, and other business supplies. The employee receives signs for and inspects packages, delivers them to appropriate personnel at HHS offices, processes and distributes mail, drives and inspects agency vehicles, maintains vehicle maintenance logs, orders supplies, manages warehouse duties, assists with office moves, performs building repairs, and serves on the Regional Disaster Deployment Team. Utilizes CAFM and CAPPS systems for assignment documentation and financial tracking. Drive state agency trucks and cargo vans to deliver and pick up large items such as furniture, filing cabinets, IT equipment, boxed file records, packages, business supplies, surplus state property, and emergency office equipment. Provide safe, efficient loading, unloading, and delivery of cargo; evaluate routes for cost‑effective travel. Perform minor vehicle repairs; monitor maintenance records; take vehicles in for upkeep. Update vehicle logs and compile monthly reports for fleet management. Train and coach new hires on safety practices and state vehicle usage. Perform shipping and receiving duties in warehouse and mailroom. Document receipt of purchased items using CAPPS and confirm match to purchase orders. Identify intended recipients, arrange routing and delivery of packages to HHS customers. Determine appropriate shipping method, weigh and affix postage, arrange pickups. Maintain records of postage, packages and mail shipped. Use online vendor systems such as FedEx and LoneStar to create shipping accounts. Operate motorized and manual equipment for warehousing, including forklifts, dollies, pallet jacks, power lifts, and golf carts. Monitor stock levels, advise manager for reorders, receive refill orders. Assemble and install furniture and equipment; adjust modular installations. Perform minor building repairs and maintenance; assist with office moves. Oversee contractor activities for moves; assist Quick Copy center with printing and delivery. Serve on Regional Disaster Deployment Team: deliver, assemble, and monitor emergency equipment. Work extended hours and in varied environments, both inside and outside. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of motor vehicle operations and basic maintenance. Knowledge of state & federal traffic rules for cargo and mail delivery. Knowledge of warehousing procedures and use of motorized equipment. Skill in operating motor vehicles (panel trucks, cargo vans with or without trailer). Skill in managing multiple priorities. Skill in standard agency computers and software (Word, Outlook).Ability to obey traffic laws and follow safe loading/unloading practices. Ability to prepare accurate records of vehicle maintenance and mileage. Ability to operate specialized equipment such as postage meter, copier, bindery. Ability to operate warehouse equipment (forklift, pallet jack, dolly). Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to perform basic building maintenance (painting, caulking, bulb replacement). Ability to follow written and verbal directions. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with customers and peers. Ability to travel locally and across the state, including overnight stays. Qualifications Registrations, Licensure, or Certifications: Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License. Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED required; preferred experience in shipping, receiving, sorting, distributing furniture or equipment; warehouse equipment operation; driving panel trucks/vans; pulling trailers.
