Project Civil Engineer

Role description Arcadis is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our team in the Phoenix, AZ area. This position supports multiple sectors, including mining, oil and gas, and rail. The successful candidate will develop and plan hydraulic modeling/calculations, erosion and sediment control evaluations and layout, watershed evaluations, and earthwork site design, and produce permit and construction‑level drawings and details. Work will involve engineering design, permitting, proposal and report writing, and construction‑phase field engineering. The role follows a hybrid model with 1–2 days per week in the office and up to 25% travel. Role accountabilities In this role, you will apply technical knowledge to support a range of environmental projects. Responsibilities include preparing technical specifications and report writing for civil and environmental permitting, planning, design, and oversight of industrial solid waste landfills, wastewater collection and treatment systems, impoundments, channels, levees, drainage systems, stormwater treatment facilities, pipelines, pump stations, roads, and other civil/environmental infrastructure. You will interface directly with clients and contractors and manage all aspects of project delivery using Arcadis resources. Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field Registered Professional Engineer, and willingness to obtain reciprocity in western states such as Colorado, Wyoming, and Arizona. 7+ years of related experience Ability to work independently and mentor junior staff Prior experience supporting mining, utilities, rail, or pipeline protection projects and coordinating across multiple engineering disciplines. Prior experience in land development such as site layout, stormwater management, grading, and erosion and sedimentation controls. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HydroCAD, WinTR‑55, PondPack, HEC‑RAS). Understanding of land development, erosion and sediment controls, road design (particularly Haul Roads and Forest Service Roads), river restoration, and stormwater permitting. The salary range for this position is $87,912 – $146,520; actual salaries vary based on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
