Center Aide (Infant/Toddler - Harlow)

Have a passion for working with children? Join our Early Head Start/Head Start team, providing early childhood education services. Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is currently full-time Infant/Toddler (ages 6 weeks to 3 years of age) Center Aide . As the Center Aide, you assist with activities involved in the daily operation of a childcare facility or preschool classroom.

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week, 52-week position located at our Harlow Street Child Development location.

Location: Bangor, Maine

Center Aide Responsibilities:

• Greeting children, getting them settled into the facility.
• Assisting with classroom and playground supervision, and other daily activities related to the operation of the classroom, including light cleaning duties.
• Maintain the confidentiality of client files and information.

Center Aide Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent and up to 12 months of experience.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic math functions.
• A minimum of an age-appropriate Child Development Accreditation (CDA) must be obtained within the first 12 months of assignment to an Early Head Start/Infant Toddler/Head Start classroom.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Work directly with children aged birth to 5 years old, managing noises and behaviors typical of this age group, including potentially unsafe actions like hitting, kicking and biting.
• Upon hire and periodically thereafter, you must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.

The current pay range for the Center Aide position is $17.00-$22.10.

Penquis Child Development will pay for newly hired staff to obtain appropriate credentials or continued educational opportunities in accordance with Head Start Standards

Eligible upon hire, new employees in our Early Childhood programs who work 24-40 hours per week will receive a monthly stipend which is based on your lattice through MRTQ (Maine Roads to Quality) .
