Position Overview
Title: Project Superintendent
Reports to: General Superintendent/Project Manager
The Project Superintendent is responsible for leading all on-site construction activities from project startup through closeout. The Superintendent ensures projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract documents, quality standards, and company expectations.
Working closely with Project Managers, subcontractors, owners, architects, and design consultants, the Superintendent serves as the primary field leader, coordinating all trades while maintaining a safe, productive, and professional jobsite.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include, but are not limited to:
Project Leadership & Execution
- Work closely and communicate consistently with Project Managers, Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, clients, architects, engineers, and other project stakeholders.
- Lead and coordinate all field operations from project startup through closeout while maintaining alignment with project goals, schedules, and budgets.
- Manage subcontractors, trades, and field personnel to achieve project milestones on aggressive schedules while delivering quality workmanship that meets plans and specifications.
- Plan and coordinate daily and weekly work activities, including preparation of master schedules and 3-week look-ahead schedules.
- Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings to align schedules, resolve conflicts, and maintain project momentum.
- Monitor manpower, productivity, sequencing, and material deliveries to ensure efficient workflow and resource utilization.
- Proactively identify and resolve field issues that may impact project schedule, budget, safety, or quality.
Schedule & Material Management
- Track, receive, and coordinate material deliveries while resolving delivery discrepancies and minimizing project disruptions.
- Assist in procurement planning and coordination of long-lead materials.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings for constructability, feasibility, and compliance.
- Coordinate inspections with municipal agencies, code officials, and third-party inspectors.
Quality Assurance & Project Documentation
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and ensure all work complies with project plans, specifications, codes, and manufacturer requirements.
- Conduct quality inspections and coordinate required testing throughout the construction process.
- Manage quality assurance programs, punch list development, and timely completion of corrective work.
- Prepare accurate daily and weekly reports documenting manpower, progress, weather conditions, inspections, deliveries, and significant project events.
- Document project status with digital photographs and record field conditions that may impact project costs or schedules.
- Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, turnover documentation, warranties, owner training, and final inspections.
Leadership & Relationship Management
- Mentor and develop Assistant Superintendents and field personnel while promoting professional growth and accountability.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, respect, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with owners, architects, engineers, tenants, subcontractors, suppliers, and community stakeholders.

Safety
- Champion a culture where safety is the first priority and every team member is accountable for safe work practices.
- Ensure strict compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Conduct regular site safety meetings, toolbox talks, inspections, and safety audits.
- Maintain organized, clean, and secure job sites that promote safe and productive work environments.
- Review subcontractor qualifications, safety plans, and required safety submittals prior to work commencing.
- Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and ensure Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) are completed when required.
- Conduct regular look-ahead meetings to identify upcoming risks and implement proactive safety measures.
- Perform Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) observations and document findings using company software platforms.
- Immediately notify leadership of any incidents, accidents, near misses, regulatory inspections, or emerging hazards.
- Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and required reporting.
- Collaborate with the Director of Safety to address observations, audit findings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure all company safety documentation and training requirements are properly implemented and maintained.
- Maintain all required construction, OSHA, and safety-related certifications for themselves and their teams.
Qualifications and Other Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum of three (3) years of Superintendent experience in commercial construction.
- Strong working knowledge of all trades and commercial construction disciplines, including structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural, and finish systems.
- Thorough understanding of commercial construction methods, sequencing, scheduling, and building systems.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, permits, and contract documents.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local building codes, permitting requirements, inspection processes, and safety regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to anticipate scheduling conflicts, identify project risks, and develop practical solutions to maintain project progress.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Procore, Bluebeam, or comparable construction management software.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing project demands.
- Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution, and decision-making abilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate professionally with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and internal team members.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise field personnel, coordinate subcontractors, promote teamwork, and maintain accountability on the jobsite.
- Strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement throughout all phases of construction.
- Ability to maintain an organized, productive, and professional jobsite environment while enforcing company policies and safety standards.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required or the ability to obtain certification through company-provided training.
- Valid driver's license required and ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
Essential Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to work safely in active construction environments that may include exposure to dust, fumes, odors, chemicals, and other typical jobsite conditions, with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) provided and required.
- Ability to work in environments with varying noise levels commonly associated with construction activities.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, move, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier loads with appropriate equipment or assistance.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and other construction-related equipment in accordance with company safety policies and manufacturer guidelines.
- Ability to traverse active construction sites, including walking on uneven terrain; climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms; and accessing various areas of a jobsite.
- Ability to perform physical tasks that may require bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, reaching, stretching, and working in confined or restricted spaces.
- Ability to travel between project locations and operate a motor vehicle with a valid driver's license.
