Psychiatric Medical Director - Part-Time Hybrid Role | Queens, NY Location: Forest Hills & Jackson Heights, Queens, NY Schedule: Approximately 18-21 hours weekly with flexible scheduling Work Setting: Primarily Remote / Hybrid with periodic on-site presence as needed Compensation: $125-$145 per hour Department: Psychiatry / Medical Leadership Reports to: Executive Leadership Team Help Shape the Future of Community Behavioral Health Care Bleuler Psychotherapy Center is seeking an experienced Psychiatrist to serve as Psychiatric Medical Director for our growing outpatient behavioral health programs in Queens, NY. This leadership role offers the opportunity to help shape psychiatric care delivery across both our OMH-licensed mental health clinics and OASAS-certified substance use treatment programs within a respected nonprofit organization that has served the community for over 70 years. This is an ideal opportunity for a psychiatrist seeking a flexible, primarily remote leadership role that combines clinical oversight, mentorship, collaboration, and strategic input - without the demands of a large hospital system or high-volume inpatient setting. Our programs include outpatient mental health treatment, substance use services, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), and a Gambling Addiction Designation. This Role Is Best Suited For An experienced psychiatrist who: Enjoys mentoring and collaborating with Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners Values thoughtful, team-based outpatient psychiatry Wants meaningful leadership involvement without excessive bureaucracy Is comfortable providing clinical guidance, oversight, and consultation Appreciates flexibility, autonomy, and mission-driven work This is not a high-volume production role. It is a clinical leadership position focused on maintaining quality psychiatric care, supporting interdisciplinary teams, and strengthening outpatient behavioral health services. What You’ll Do Provide overall clinical leadership and psychiatric oversight across outpatient mental health and substance use programs Maintain a small outpatient psychiatric caseload as clinically appropriate Serve as collaborating physician and clinical supervisor for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners Support onboarding, mentorship, and ongoing professional development of PMHNPs and prescribing clinicians Provide consultation regarding complex psychiatric presentations, medication management, and treatment planning Review and approve treatment plans, particularly for medication-management-only clients Participate in Incident Review Committee meetings, medical staff meetings, interdisciplinary discussions, and quality initiatives Support utilization review, peer review, risk management, and clinical quality assurance processes Assist with development and review of psychiatric policies, procedures, and clinical protocols Promote evidence-based, trauma-informed, and client-centered psychiatric care organization-wide Ensure documentation, prescribing practices, and clinical workflows meet regulatory and ethical standards Required Qualifications MD or DO from an accredited medical school Active and unrestricted New York State medical license Board Certification in Psychiatry required DEA registration and NY controlled substance certification required Strong knowledge of OMH, OASAS, and behavioral health regulatory requirements Ability to supervise and collaborate with Nurse Practitioners under NYS requirements Comfortable working independently within a hybrid/remote leadership structure Experience with EHR systems and psychiatric documentation review Preferred Experience Board Certification in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine strongly preferred Prior experience as a Medical Director, Supervising Psychiatrist, or psychiatric leader in outpatient behavioral health Experience supervising Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners Familiarity with utilization review, incident review, and quality improvement initiatives Experience in community mental health, outpatient psychiatry, or substance use treatment preferred Why Psychiatrists Choose Bleuler Primarily remote leadership structure with scheduling flexibility Opportunity to shape and strengthen psychiatric services across multiple outpatient programs Collaborative, interdisciplinary clinical culture Established nonprofit organization with deep roots in Queens communities Ability to influence systems of care rather than simply manage high-volume caseloads Leadership role with meaningful clinical impact and operational support Ready to Help Lead a Growing Behavioral Health Organization?
