Calendar: TEACH Benefits: Eligible (Retirees not benefit eligible) Contract Type: TEACH Bargaining Unit: TCHR‑NEA Revised Date: 09/2015 Purpose: The Gross Motor Specialist works closely with Physical and Occupational Therapists and ECSE staff to design and implement weekly activities for pre‑k students with a variety of disabilities in the district. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Providing instruction to students Creating and implementing a classroom disciplinary plan Knowledge of child development motor milestones necessary to help in creating lesson plans and activities to implement and supplement instruction Participating in building, grade level and subject area committees Participating in professional development activities Maintaining accurate student records including attendance, grades and discipline Completing and submitting forms and required reports in a timely manner Communicating regularly with parents regarding progress and other educational concerns Participating as a member of an IEP team, 504 team or other student assistance teams as requested Implementing special educational plans such as 504 plans, individual educational programs and individual health plans Reporting suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassments as directed by Board policy Preparing lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher Understanding and adhering to Board policies and procedures Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District. Reporting Relationships Reports To: Director of Early Childhood Special Education Supervises: None Qualifications Minimum: Missouri teacher certification; applicants with advanced training or teaching experience in the adapted physical education area and/or postgraduate coursework or degree in special education and/or early childhood will be considered. Preferred: Master’s degree in Adapted Physical Education. Ideal candidate will have a professional and friendly demeanor with a demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of individuals in a fast‑paced environment. ADA Requirements Language: Read, analyze and interpret professional journals, Board policy, administrative procedures and forms and governmental regulations and guidance; read, analyze, and implement curriculum and assessment data to plan instruction; complete forms, write reports and engage in written correspondence with parents; present information effectively and respond to questions; write clear and complete lesson plans. Computation: Work with mathematical concepts. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning: Solve a variety of problems in many different situations; interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form; apply knowledge of current educational theory and instructional techniques while presenting subject matter to students; demonstrate executive functions such as planning, organizing, remembering, and regulating information and behavior as they pertain to student performance and achievement. Other Skills and Abilities: Identify needs and abilities of individual students and adapt instructional methods; establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Technology: Integrate technology into daily instruction; present information to students using a variety of media; access and present information from online sources; instruct in buildings/classes where students are actively using 1-to-1 technology; lead students in creating and presenting multimedia projects; use district software for recording grades; use smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology; adhere to all district policies regarding technology use. Physical Demands: Speak and hear in environments where numerous conversations and activities may take place; move around the classroom to interact with and manage students; read handwritten or printed material. Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
