Description

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment, extrusion lines, building systems, and facility equipment used in PVC pipe manufacturing. This position ensures all machinery operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime by performing preventive and corrective maintenance. The Maintenance Mechanic works closely with Production to support continuous manufacturing operations and reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on PVC pipe extrusion lines and related production equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and conveyor systems.
• Install, align, adjust, and replace motors, gearboxes, pumps, bearings, belts, chains, rollers, and other mechanical components.
• Maintain downstream extrusion equipment, including vacuum tanks, cooling tanks, haul-offs, cutters, belling machines, and material handling systems.
• Diagnose equipment failures and implement timely repairs to minimize production downtime.
• Perform equipment changeovers, machine setup, and production line adjustments as required.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
• Assist with equipment upgrades, new installations, and continuous improvement projects.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and preventive maintenance documentation.
• Ensure compliance with all OSHA regulations, plant safety policies, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical/Visual Activities Required

• Have adequate sight, hearing, and use of limbs to safely operate all powered vehicles. I.E. forklifts and sweepers.
• Sight capabilities to distinguish proper product identification as well as warning and operational indicators.
• Hearing capabilities to distinguish the difference in warning alarm indicators and standard operation indicators.
• Sight capabilities to identify accuracy and neatness of required job assignments.
• Stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling capabilities to handle job requirements such as operating, cleaning and repair of equipment.
• Balance to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching in all areas.
• Ability to verbally communicate either face to face or via telephone with other fellow employees to accomplish all assigned job requirements.
• Hear and understand verbal communication whether it be face to face or via telephone.
• See and understand written communication.
• Climb and descend all ladders or steps whether fixed or portable on company facilities in order to access all areas if needed.
• Lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 30 feet.
• Walking through, under and around equipment with a clearance of 30 feet.
• Ability to feel objects, size and shape. Ability to determine temperature by touching of skin, primarily by that of fingertips.
• Ability to grasp tools (manual as well as powered) and use them in accordance with a safe working manner so as not to injure yourself or fellow employees. I.E. power saws, drills, hammers, presses, latches etc.
• Sight capability to safely operate at arm's length machinery power and hand tools needed to accomplish the requirements of the job assignments for this position.
• Activates and uses telephones and calculators as required.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Training: The first 90 days of employment will consist of on-the-job training to demonstrate the ability to learn and perform all essential functions of the position.

Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma/G.E.D or two (2) year's experience in maintenance repairs and mechanical experience. Ability to read mechanical drawings. Knowledge of mathematical skills. Forklift experience.

Computer Skills: Possess intermediate knowledge of MS Word and Excel.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents, Ability to write routine reports when needed. Ability to speak effectively with employees or customers.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate basic math including addition, subtraction and percentages.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form as needed.
