Archdiocese of Chicago Barista PositionThe Archdiocese of Chicago, the third largest in the United States, serves more than 2.2 million Catholics in 216 parishes in Cook County and Lake County, a geographic area of 1,411 square miles. Its schools have received 96 U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Awards.Cor Coffee is the main outreach apostolate of the St. John Paul II Newman Center that exists to help college students encounter Christ so they can become fully alive in Him. A Cor Coffee Barista furthers this mission by making good coffee and engaging in conversation with customers.Pillars of Barista Formation:Coffee Make drinks excellentlyEffectively trains other baristas and provides ongoing feedback as necessaryTastes and adjusts dials and machine as neededEncounter Strong conversation skills and engages customers while making drinksSees how working as a barista is preparation for real-world life-long missionProactively maintains awareness of environment for the comfort and welcome of all, especially the newest customerSeeks out opportunities for intentional invitations to regular customersDivine Intimacy Connects to Newman through another avenue besides Cor (Bible study, formation, social events, etc.)Prays at least 20 minutes everydayDisplays appropriate moral authority as a representative of the Catholic ChurchUnderstands and can cast vision for the mission of Cor to reach the unchurchedResponsibility Aware of inventory and anticipates needsExcellent communication skills with fellow baristas, Head Baristas, and ManagerReceives and provides feedbackEngages in conflict management in a healthy wayResponsibilities:Working a minimum of 5 hours per week (*can serve more hours to practice if schedule allows)Attending a monthly 1.5 hour-long in-service with all Cor Coffee BaristasRegularly participating in Christian formation (i.e. Bible Study, discipleship, one-on-one with a Newman Staff Member, etc.)Reading and responding to weekly GroupMe messagesDisplaying commitment to excellence and professionalismFollowing all pillars to the best of one's abilitiesRequirements:Must be a currently enrolled college student (undergraduate or graduate)Must be over the age of 18Must be responsible and punctualMust be diligent and willing to complete tasks thoroughly and completelyMust have a form of faith formation such as attending a Bible study, discipleship, or spiritual directionThe Archdiocese of Chicago offers a comprehensive total rewards package to include competitive compensation and benefit programs.
