Exciting Opportunity in Cytogenetic Pathology at Our Organization in Pittsburgh, PA

The Pathology Department at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking Clinical Laboratory Geneticists for positions as Assistant Professor (up to 5 years of experience), Associate Professor (more than 5 years of experience), or Professor (10+ years of experience) Laboratory Director. These roles will be appointed in the UPMC Cytogenetics Laboratories.

Key Responsibilities

• The main duties will involve analyzing and interpreting results, preparing and reviewing final test reports, and reporting on karyotyping, FISH, microarray, and OGM analyses for oncological, prenatal, and postnatal samples.
• The Laboratory Director will support the Medical Director in overseeing the direction, supervision, and administration of operations related to specimen handling, testing, and reporting, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and confidentiality for clients and patients.
• Working within a cutting-edge academic laboratory, the selected candidate will be expected to develop and validate in-house assays for oncology and other clinically relevant applications.
• Additional responsibilities include maintaining standard operating procedure manuals, implementing quality control practices, and guiding cytogenetics technical staff in proficiency testing programs as mandated by regulatory and licensing bodies (CLIA, CAP).
• The Laboratory Director will collaborate closely with the Division of Molecular & Genomic Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and will engage in the education of Pathology and OB/GYN residents/fellows, as well as training LGG fellows through the ACGME-accredited program.
• Innovation is a vital aspect of our work, and we anticipate that the candidate will engage in publishing, collaboration, and the development of new tests. Support for teaching and research activities will be provided by the department and institution.

Qualifications

• Applicants must hold an MD/DO and/or PhD in Biology and be ABMGG-Certified or eligible for certification in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) or Cytogenetics.
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in cytogenetic testing of oncology specimens and those who have developed new molecular and cytogenetic tests, such as Optical Genome Mapping.
