Senior IT Technician

Prudent Technology is seeking a Senior IT Technician who will serve as a technical lead for device imaging, refurbishment, and hardware triage, resolving complex image failures and hardware faults, coordinating OEM warranty repairs, and mentoring technicians on depot procedures. This role requires advanced hardware and Windows deployment experience along with the judgment to troubleshoot independently and escalate appropriately.

Location: Beltsville, MD (On-Site)

Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust suitability determination with a Tier 1 (T1) background investigation

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical lead for device imaging operations, applying standard approved Microsoft Windows images to laptops, desktops, and tablets.
• Coordinate multi-bench batch imaging to meet daily production targets of up to 300 devices and balance work across technicians.
• Diagnose and resolve complex image failures, driver and hardware compatibility issues, and deployment errors, escalating to the Federal Imaging Lead when required.
• Lead initial technical evaluation of returned devices, including visual inspection, power-on testing, BIOS verification, and hardware recognition.
• Determine refurbishment or excess suitability by reviewing asset records, life-cycle status, and warranty coverage.
• Perform component-level repair on laptops, desktops, tablets, and printers, and route non-warranty damage for deprioritization.
• Coordinate OEM warranty repairs end to end and escalate unresolved repair requests to the Federal Team Lead.
• Oversee refurbishment imaging and kitting to ensure devices are complete and ready for customer shipment.
• Perform quality checks on imaging output, device identity, accessory completeness, and asset record accuracy at defined process points.
• Update and audit serialized asset status, location, configuration, and warranty data in the ITSM and asset management systems within two business days.
• Review and update work order notes and escalate tickets that cannot be resolved to the Federal lead.
• Train, mentor, and cross-train IT Technicians on imaging, triage, repair, and kitting procedures.
• Support the Program Manager with station coverage, workload balancing, and production planning during peak periods.
• Maintain runbooks, checklists, and station guides so operational knowledge stays with the program.
• Operate standard warehouse equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, barcode scanners, and label printers.
• Enforce OSHA and facility safety standards, report safety concerns and accidents to the onsite manager immediately, and complete all required federal and agency training on time.

Basic Qualifications Required Education, Certifications, Skills, and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field preferred.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in device imaging, end-user hardware support, IT asset management, or an IT depot environment.
• Advanced experience deploying Microsoft Windows operating systems at volume, including troubleshooting failed deployments.
• Demonstrated component-level hardware repair experience across laptops, desktops, and tablets.
• Experience coordinating OEM warranty repairs and return merchandise authorizations.
• Experience leading, training, or mentoring technical staff.
• Experience using an IT service management or asset management system to record work and maintain asset data.
• Ability to stand, bend, lift, sit, and walk for extended periods and to lift and carry material up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work full time on site in Beltsville, MD, including coverage of the mandatory 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM receiving window.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• CompTIA A+ certification; Network+ or a manufacturer hardware certification such as Dell or HP is a plus.
• Experience with Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, SCCM, or similar imaging and deployment tools.
• Experience with BMC Remedy, Remedy Asset Management (RAM), or ServiceNow.
• Experience supporting a federal IT depot, warehouse, or device lifecycle program.
• Experience working in a federal or government environment.
