We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Architect to join our Engineering team in Lexington, North Carolina .

In this highly visible technical leadership role, you will be responsible for defining and governing the mechanical architecture of passenger rail vehicles while ensuring alignment with customer requirements, regulatory standards, manufacturing capabilities, and program objectives.

You will collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, procurement, testing, and project management functions to develop innovative, cost-effective vehicle solutions that meet the demands of North America's evolving rail market. As a technical authority, you will also mentor engineers, influence design strategy, and drive standardization across rail vehicle platforms.

What You'll Do

Lead Complex Rail Vehicle Programs

• Serve as the technical leader for mechanical architecture and vehicle-level design activities.
• Guide cross-functional engineering teams through the full product lifecycle, from concept development through manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and warranty support.
• Drive technical decision-making while balancing performance, quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks to ensure successful program execution.

Define Mechanical Architecture & System Integration

• Develop scalable, cost-optimized vehicle architectures utilizing standardized platforms, modules, and components.
• Establish vehicle-level requirements, technical interfaces, and integration strategies.
• Ensure seamless mechanical integration across all vehicle subsystems.
• Define subsystem performance, technical specifications, and target cost requirements.
• Support design standardization initiatives across multiple rail vehicle platforms.

Drive Technical Excellence & Compliance

• Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including specifications, design review packages, CDRLs, and technical reports.
• Ensure compliance with customer requirements, industry regulations, and applicable railway standards.
• Support proposal and bid activities by providing technical solutions, risk assessments, and engineering estimates.
• Participate in design reviews and verification activities to ensure technical integrity and program success.

Partner with Customers & Internal Stakeholders

• Represent Siemens Mobility in customer-facing technical discussions and design reviews.
• Collaborate closely with Technical Managers, Bid Managers, Validation Managers, Manufacturing Engineering, Procurement, and Program Management teams.
• Drive alignment between customer expectations and executable engineering solutions.

Mentor & Develop Talent

• Provide technical coaching and guidance to mechanical engineers and engineering teams.
• Share best practices and lessons learned to strengthen organizational capability and engineering excellence.
• Contribute to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with 8+ years of professional experience , or
• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with 5+ years of professional experience .
• Demonstrated experience leading mechanical engineering efforts for complex products or systems.
• Experience managing projects throughout the entire product lifecycle, including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, testing, and post-delivery support.
• Strong systems-thinking mindset with the ability to understand vehicle-level integration challenges.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience within the rail, rolling stock, transportation, aerospace, automotive, heavy equipment, or other complex engineered product industries.
• Knowledge of passenger rail vehicle systems and integration.
• Familiarity with railway industry standards and regulations, including:
  • AAR Section M
  • APTA Standards
  • ASME Standards
  • PRIIA Requirements
  • Amtrak Specifications
• Experience developing modular platforms, product architectures, or complex mechanical systems.
• Experience supporting customer-facing design reviews and technical presentations.

Work Environment: This position may require work in manufacturing environments, rail facilities, and other non-climate-controlled locations. Occasional travel may be required. Employees must be able to work safely in varying environmental conditions as business needs dictate.
