Electrical Engineering Manager

Piper Maddox are partnered with a leading independent power producer that owns and operates over 7 GW of utility-scale generation assets across the U.S . , spanning solar, wind, and natural gas. As the business continues to grow its operating portfolio, they are looking to bring on a Manager, Electrical Engineering to lead their Engineering team and serve as the internal Owner's Engineer across the fleet.

This is a true engineering leadership opportunity. Rather than being focused on personally executing technical work, the Manager will be responsible for the performance, capability, and output of the engineering team, establishing standards and processes, developing technical talent, and ensuring the organization can effectively support a large and growing generation fleet.

The role will work closely with plant operations, asset management, contractors, equipment suppliers, and senior leadership, providing technical oversight across maintenance, reliability, safety, compliance, capital improvements, and optimization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Lead and develop a team of electrical engineering professionals supporting a large portfolio of utility-scale generation assets.
• Establish engineering standards, processes, priorities, and review practices to ensure consistent, high-quality technical work across the fleet.
• Balance emergent operational issues with planned capital projects, maintenance initiatives, compliance requirements, and other engineering priorities.
• Provide senior technical oversight and guidance on electrical systems, generation equipment, controls, protection systems, and plant improvement projects.
• Develop the technical capabilities of the team through mentorship, cross-training, succession planning, and targeted professional development.
• Oversee engineering analyses, designs, specifications, and technical solutions related to the operation, maintenance, reliability, safety, and optimization of generating facilities.
• Work directly with plant managers, operations teams, contractors, equipment suppliers, and other technical stakeholders to develop functional and cost-effective solutions.
• Support major outages and maintenance activities, including planning, budgeting, procurement, equipment evaluations, and recommendations surrounding major plant equipment, protective schemes, and control systems.
• Lead and oversee Root Cause Analyses for significant generation incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively.
• Identify staffing, software, tooling, external engineering, and other resources required to scale the engineering organization and build the business case for those investments.
• Provide technical input into annual plant budgets and capital planning while helping identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and operating performance across the fleet.
• Partner with senior leadership and cross-functional teams on technical, operational, financial, and corporate initiatives.

With 7+ GW of operating generation across multiple technologies, this is an opportunity to step into a high-impact engineering leadership position within an established owner/operator. The Manager will have the ability to shape how engineering is performed across the fleet, develop a growing technical organization, and directly influence the reliability, efficiency, and long-term performance of utility-scale generation assets.

This is a chance to move into a role with significant organizational ownership and visibility while remaining close to the technical and operational side of the business.
