Surgical Technician – General Surgery

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Travel | Full-Time | Onsite | 4x10-hour shifts (Monday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday – 6:45 AM to 5:15 PM) | 40 Guaranteed Hours per Week | 13-Week Assignment

Key Responsibilities

• Supply the operating room with proper equipment and instrumentation required for specific surgical procedures
• Maintain sterility of the surgical field throughout all procedures and identify any breaks in aseptic technique, taking appropriate corrective action
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, passing instruments in a timely and accurate manner
• Assist with intraoperative duties including sponge or suction, holding retractors, applying electrocautery, irrigation, cutting suture material, connecting drains, and applying wound dressings under direct supervision
• Care for instrumentation and equipment following each procedure and prepare the room for the next case to support efficient room turnover
• Ensure all equipment is functioning properly before each procedure and report any malfunctions or damage appropriately

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an OR and Trauma setting
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
• Ability to complete a CMP blood panel prior to start date
• Strong hand-eye coordination and technical patient care skills under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Ability to perform scrub duties that facilitate the work of the surgeon
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced surgical environment comparable to a Level I or Level II Trauma Center
• Familiarity with a wide range of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and surgeon preference cards
• Flexibility to float to other department needs within competency level
