The Interventional Radiologist performs a large spectrum of image‑guided procedures with appropriate clinical preparation and follow‑up in the rapidly expanding field of Vascular and Interventional Radiology and provides a broad range of care to Veterans with complex disease and comorbidities – within a patient‑centric model. Qualifications Applicants must meet the basic requirements listed below and any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from an approved school. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Accepted options include: Approved ACGME/AOA accredited residency (or fellowship) leading to board certification. One year of post‑medical school training approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of independent practice under a full license. Non‑US residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States, including U.S. fellowships. Exceptions: Residents in accredited programs who otherwise meet the basic requirements may be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs) on an intermittent basis. PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only perform restricted duties under supervision. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional Requirement: American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certification. Completion of an ACGME Radiology residency and Interventional Radiology fellowship with dual board certification/eligibility in Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology through the American Board of Radiology. Physical Requirements: In accordance with VA Directive and Handbook 5019. Duties Deliver the best possible care to Veterans, meeting or exceeding national standards and VHA benchmarks. Perform duties vicariously across the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center in close interdisciplinary collaboration with Surgery, Internal Medicine, Primary Care, Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, and other services. Participate in interdisciplinary conferences and adhere to coordinated care decisions. Maintain current medical knowledge, technical skills, and diagnostic and therapeutic acumen. Ensure procedural indications are adequate based on American College of Radiology appropriateness criteria and that pre‑ and post‑procedural care is of adequate quality and patient‑centric. Collaborate and communicate effectively with the Emergency Department, subspecialty services, and/or clinics, including admissions and in‑patient care as required. Perform vascular and interventional radiological procedures safely, cost‑sensitively, and in line with national standards. Participate in on‑call physician coverage for vascular and interventional radiology. Exercise corporate citizenship and uphold collegial professionalism and mutual respect in all encounters. Participate in system redesigns, quality improvement, assurance programs, and evidence‑based medicine initiatives for VIR services. Facilitate the implementation of modern care technologies and procedures, including personal technical training, education, protocol development, staff instruction, literature searches, and presentations.
