RN Psych

This position involves working in a 25-bed acute inpatient psychiatry unit. The unit is staffed with a minimum of five personnel for 18-25 patients. Staffing includes three licensed professionals and two additional staff members. Additional staff could consist of licensed personnel or Mental Health Assistants (MHAs). Staffing requirements change depending on patient load. This role involves functioning in various capacities, including charge nurse and admission nurse. The admission nurse oversees all patient admissions during their shift. Another nurse will manage medication administration for patients. All nursing staff are trained for each of these roles to ensure flexibility. Mental Health Assistants also take on patient assignments similar to nurses. They perform duties such as conducting rounds, taking vital signs, and facilitating patient groups. The patient population includes presentations of acute psychosis, depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. Critical emergency issues are managed by contacting emergency services. The use of restraints is a last resort after all de-escalation techniques have been exhausted. Nursing staff are responsible for managing restraints on the unit. Security personnel are available for support during crisis situations. Training includes Naloxone and BLS.
