Protection & Control (P&C) Field Services Technician

About the Role

The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role.

BG Power Advisors is partnering with a leading client to hire an experienced Protection & Control (P&C) Field Services Technician to test and commission protection and control systems on high-voltage substations. This is a true road-warrior role for someone who thrives on hands-on field work. You can live anywhere in the state or a surrounding state. A company truck is provided and all travel is reimbursed. Expect to travel up to 80% of the time.

Responsibilities

Perform testing and commissioning of protective relays on high-voltage substations
Perform on-site, hands-on protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150 (relays include SEL-311L, SEL-387, SEL-487, SEL-421, SEL-351S, GE L90, GE D60, and others)
Perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and contribute to technical and safety development
Accurately document test results and produce field reports in the requested format
Read and understand electrical drawings and schematics

Required Education / Experience

5-10 years of professional experience in the electrical testing industry, including medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing
Demonstrable expertise with transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families) and protective schemes
Relay calibration with test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150; control scheme testing; testing of CT/PT sensing circuits; uploading settings to microprocessor relays; static and dynamic testing of microprocessor-based protective relays
Proven experience with NETA, IEEE, and NFPA standards, practices, and procedures
Proficiency with testing and data-review software: ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset
Ability to meet minimum insurability standards based xhyhwjd on a Motor Vehicle Report
Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test and a seven (7) year background check
Ability to stand for long periods and lift 50+ lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation
Must be willing to travel the majority of the time

Desired Education / Experience

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a Technology degree in a similar discipline
Experience testing and troubleshooting electromechanical relays
Experience testing and commissioning high-voltage substation equipment such as CTs, CCVTs, PLC systems, and DC systems including batteries and chargers
