Job DescriptionThis Transportation Maintenance Worker 6-E8 will work at the St. Ignace Garage from approximately the end of October until mid-April each year. This position will then job change to a Steeplejack 7-E9 position working at the Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) in St. Ignace from approximately mid-April until end of October each year, at which time the position will then job change back to the St. Ignace Garage as a Transportation Maintenance Worker 6-E8. Transportation Maintenance Worker (TMW) 6-E8: This position performs maintenance of state trunk lines, structures, and right-of-ways in the Superior Region. Duties include, but are not limited to, performing all surface, roadside general maintenance, and winter maintenance activities, operating various types of equipment and participating in the Transportation Maintenance Worker (TMW) work element program. This position is required to travel to work sites throughout the Region, requiring overnight travel. Winter work schedule includes afternoon, night, and weekend shift assignments with scheduled and unscheduled overtime. Operate a vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more (e.g., dump truck, snowplow, etc.) when performing maintenance activities. Steeplejack 7-E9: Perform maintenance, repair, sandblasting, painting, washing, greasing, oiling, bolting, caulking, forming, cement work, and inspections of the Mackinac Bridge using various tools, equipment, materials, and specialized knowledge and principles of maintenance trades. Follow all safety regulations over water ways and above 300'. Perform concrete repairs on substructure, deck, curbs, sidewalks and bituminous surfaces. Perform all related work required on all approaches, buildings, and right of ways. Operate a vehicle or vehicle/trailer combination with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more (e.g., snowplow, heavy duty dump trucks, etc.) when performing maintenance tasks.
