Role: Network Engineer II Job Description Network and security‑related certifications (CCNA, Security+, Network+) Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or another related discipline. Advanced knowledge to create engineered drawings, statements of work, and technical manuals for Telecommunications Unit (AMK-224). Direct and participate in all aspects of the FAA Network Engineering/Security framework, installing, configuring, and monitoring routers, switches and other network devices while maintaining secure, redundant and reliable operation of the MMAC Backbone Network and the MMAC Internet Access Point (IAP). Maintain and update documentation of network security, platforms, designs, operations and procedures. Ensure network team documentation meets requirements before hardware or software changes to the production network; perform network management/monitoring, Internet filtering/caching, routing protocols, ACLs and UPS monitoring with no supervision. Lead Scaled Agile Frameworks (SAFe) or traditional Waterfall program management groups for automation and standardization efforts. Serve as subject‑matter expert in strategic planning committees, task forces and enterprise program integration. Project lead and expert on network enhancement and modernization projects. Daily monitor and resolve advanced or complex tickets from the Help Desk “Network” queue and the Telecommunications (AMK-224) Archibus work‑order system; instruct other FAA personnel on Archibus ticket implementation. Continuously monitor all configuration‑change‑management processes; install, test, modify, enhance and maintain LAN/WAN computer networks. Diagnose and resolve problems; implement OS patches and upgrades; address security issues with firewalls, switches, routers, VPNs; provide weekly status updates to management; allow lower‑level engineers to shadow as needed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or a related discipline. Five years of documented IT experience, including installing, maintaining or managing camera systems, circuit and WAN management, MPLS and LTE vendor interfaces, Cisco ISE and DNAC, IoT equipment, NAT/PAT, SolarWinds network tools, Cisco routers and switches (9300, 9500), UC‑UPS equipment, TACACS/RADIUS. Experience troubleshooting and maintaining network tools and topology maps. Maintain detailed issue records in a ticketing system and handle end‑user calls directly. Ability to handle tickets escalated from Tier 1 service desk personnel and to contact vendors when necessary. Conduct research, analysis and correlation across diverse data sets. Meet SLA requirements for response, restore and notification with proper pending codes. Working knowledge of ITIL principles. Experience with enterprise‑level ticketing systems such as ServiceNow or Remedy. Understanding of Syslog and SNMP monitoring. Network and security‑related certifications (CCNP, CCNP Routing and Switching) or equivalent documented knowledge. Ability to interpret information from network tools such as Nslookup, Ping, Traceroute. Knowledge of networking concepts, protocols and security methodologies. Knowledge of host or network access control mechanisms (ACLs, capability lists). Familiarity with network protocols such as TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS and directory services. Understanding and knowledge of 5G equipment. Maintain LAN and WAN connectivity across multiple remote locations. Serve as a resource for engineering and as an escalation point for unresolved issues. Interface with architecture teams and serve as the implementation arm for moving projects from testing to production. Attend Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings to present and defend proposed changes. Participate in on‑call rotation (estimated once every four weeks). Support information systems as an information or cyber‑security professional. FAA/MMAC experience preferred.
