Job Summary:

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Systems Engineer to lead the development, integration, characterization and technical ownership of advanced laboratory instrumentation. This role will be responsible for driving technical investigations, developing system and subsystem requirements, supporting architecture and design decisions, and working closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Assay, and Verification teams throughout the product development lifecycle.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated engineer with strong systems thinking, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a passion for developing robust, reliable products. The candidate should be comfortable designing and executing experiments, analyzing complex data, identifying root causes, and communicating technical findings to multidisciplinary teams. Experience with laboratory instrumentation, fluidic systems, thermal systems, motion systems, and product development is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

• Lead development and integration of complex subsystems and system-level features for laboratory instrumentation.
• Develop, refine, and maintain system and subsystem requirements.
• Design and execute experiments, test plans, protocols, and engineering studies to evaluate feasibility and characterize system performance.
• Analyze results to identify root causes, improve system reliability, and retire technical risks.
• Support system architecture activities, interface definition, technical trade studies, and risk management throughout product development.
• Document technical findings through reports, design reviews, and engineering documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within assigned project areas.
• Support prototype development, integration, and troubleshooting activities through Alpha, Beta, and product launch.
• Drive investigations and engineering activities focused on improving system robustness, reliability, and long-term performance.

Experience Requirements:

• 8+ years of engineering experience developing complex products or instrumentation systems.
• Demonstrated success leading technical investigations from problem identification through resolution and implementation of corrective actions.
• Experience using experimental methods and engineering studies to evaluate system performance, reliability, and technical risk.
• Experience integrating and troubleshooting multidisciplinary systems involving mechanical, electrical, software, thermal, or fluidic subsystems.
• Experience translating user needs, design goals, and technical constraints into engineering requirements and verification approaches.
• Demonstrated ability to independently lead technical workstreams, drive technical decisions, and deliver results with minimal supervision.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across functional teams.
• Experience supporting products through multiple phases of the product lifecycle, including concept development, feasibility, integration, verification, and product release.
• Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and product development processes.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex multidisciplinary systems and solve poorly defined technical problems through structured root-cause investigation.
• Experience working with mechanical, thermal, fluidic, electrical, or software-integrated products.
• Strong experimental design and data analysis skills.
• Proficiency with engineering analysis tools such as Excel, Minitab, MATLAB, Python, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with requirements management, risk management, and verification methodologies.
• Ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Experience working in laboratory or regulated product development environments is preferred.
• Working knowledge of CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred) with the ability to develop test fixtures, prototype components, and engineering concepts. Familiarity with GD&T and DFM/DFA principles is desirable.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Able to stand or sit for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity required for handling laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
• Capacity to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Comfort with performing repetitive tasks.
• Willingness to work in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals or biological materials.
• Able to use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Occasional bending, reaching, or movement within lab environment.

Work Location: Hybrid work schedule on-site in Norwood, MA minimum 4 days/week on-site and 1 day/week WFH

Targeted Salary Range: $125,000 - $145,000
