Pay: $21.02-$25.50 hourly

Phone Salesperson

The Phone Salesperson will assist callers with all aspects of the sales process for residential, commercial, and re-model construction. This position directly reports to Phone Sales Supervisor. They interact daily with prospects and customers over the phone and regularly with General Managers, Retail Location Employees, Central Purchasing Department, Credit Department, Information Systems Department (MIS), vendor representatives, and industry associates.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist in meeting team sales and profit goals
• Establish and maintain professional relationships with customers and business associates
• Quickly respond to customer complaints and concerns
• Answer customers' questions, process estimates and orders for customers, take messages for other employees, order stock, special order products for customers, and process credit returns
• Keep work area clean and well organized
• Ensures that appropriate paperwork is completed as per company policy
• Check all paperwork for accuracy
• Assist Inventory Specialist in maintaining an appropriate level of inventory
• Make all customers feel genuinely welcome, including greeting customers with a smile and communicating with customers in a friendly manner
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of building materials, construction codes and selling techniques. Share such information with co-workers
• Promptly report all accidents/incidents
• When requested, sit as member of the safety committee
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma
• Some college preferred
• Must have experience in sales or in the building materials industry, preferably both
• Ability to speak, write, and read English required
• Must be able to operate personal computer, smartphone, scanner, and any other equipment necessary for the job
• Must be able to type 40+ WPM
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Class C driver's license or alternative transportation preferred
• Knowledge of retail and contractor sales principles, practices, and protocols
• Knowledge of dimension lumber, panel products, and other building materials
• Ability to achieve aggressive sales goals and objectives

Interpersonal Skills

• Ability to work cordially, professionally, diplomatically and with a high level of customer service in a dynamic environment.
• Demonstrate sound judgment in dealing with sensitive business matters with internal and external customers of all types. Must maintain confidentiality and accuracy of all information related to company finances and records, particularly, cost of goods purchased and sold.
• Ability and willingness to identify processes, tools and/or procedures that may be improved upon in an effort to improve the workplace and outcomes for our customers.
• Ability to communicate with all levels of management and employees at a high skill level and speak effectively in front of groups. Communication can include, but is not limited to: in-person (verbal and non-verbal), written, e-mail, telephone and public speaking to medium size groups
• Strong focus, planning, organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage changing priorities, handle multiple projects, and do what is necessary to meet deadlines, while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to function independently, as part of a team, and as a leader within your own sales cohort with a positive attitude, strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
• Ability to think and respond quickly, positively and professionally to constantly changing circumstances.

Working Conditions

This position primarily works in an office environment with a computer.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to work indoors in a normal office environment for an entire day
• Must be able to grasp, talk, hear, and operate a computer and keyboard
• Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds and carry objects 50 feet
• Both local and overnight travel may be required
