Veterinary Technician Location: In-Office | Camden, SC

Our client is seeking a skilled Veterinary Technician to join their small animal clinical team in Camden, SC. This is a hands-on, full-scope tech role — not a task-limited assistant position. You'll scrub in for surgery, run your own diagnostics, and be trusted to make real clinical calls alongside the veterinarians.

A Day in the Life of the Veterinary Technician

You'll be the backbone of this small animal practice — from the moment you pull a chart to the moment a patient goes home. This isn't a role where you're handing instruments to someone else and stepping back. You'll be scrubbing in, running labs, monitoring patients under anesthesia, positioning for rads, and owning your exam rooms. The doctors here rely on their techs to catch things, move fast, and communicate clearly with clients and each other.

Responsibilities include:

• Arriving ready for scheduled appointments, emergencies, and walk-in cases — and adapting as the day changes
• Stocking and prepping exam and surgery rooms; drawing up vaccines, medications, and controlled drugs as directed
• Assisting veterinarians with physical exams, treatments, and patient care throughout the day
• Restraining and positioning patients safely for exams, blood draws, imaging, and procedures
• Taking and developing radiographs with full attention to positioning and radiation safety protocols
• Measuring and recording vitals (weight, temperature, pulse, respiration) and flagging abnormalities to the veterinarian
• Performing general physical assessments and relaying accurate, complete findings
• Collecting and processing diagnostic samples — blood, urine, feces, skin scrapings, and tissue specimens
• Prepping animals for surgery and scrubbing in as a sterile surgical assistant
• Administering oral, topical, and parenteral medications and vaccines under veterinarian direction
• Cleaning, packing, and autoclaving instruments; maintaining sterile technique throughout
• Keeping medical records accurate, complete, and up to date — including supply documentation
• Admitting and discharging patients per doctor's orders, including thorough client education on home care
• Communicating clearly with pet owners about patient history, symptoms, and care instructions
• Supporting reception and kennel staff as needed to keep the hospital running smoothly
• Tracking medical supply levels and reporting equipment issues before they become problems
• Following all hospital protocols, safety procedures, and SOPs without shortcuts
• Attending mandatory staff meetings and pursuing continued growth in technical skills

Schedule:

4 days a week. Weekend workers run a 3–3.5 weekday + weekend shift schedule.

Facility hours: 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM; staff start as early as 6:50 AM. Extended hours to 7:00 PM may occur for emergency cases.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Prior clinical experience in a veterinary hospital — including externships, clinical rotations, or internships
• Hands-on experience with venipuncture, blood draws, vaccine administration, radiology setup, and diagnostic sample prep
• Familiarity with flea and heartworm prevention protocols
• Comfortable working closely with veterinarians, fellow techs, and support staff in a team setting
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to thorough, accurate documentation
• Dedicated to safety, professionalism, and maintaining a clean, organized clinical environment
