Job Summary Assist journeyman in the planning, layout, installation, testing, and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, motors, equipment, and control systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Key Responsibilities Use hand and power tools (drill, screwdriver, pipe threader, conduit bender) to assist the electrician in measuring, cutting, bending wire and conduit, drilling holes, pulling wiring, and positioning components. Perform minor repairs such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches. Maintain tools and equipment, keep supplies and parts organized, and disassemble, repair, and reassemble defective electrical equipment like motors. Load, transport, unload, and furnish the electrician with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies. Clean the work area and restock supplies and materials as needed. Help install all related items per applicable plans and specifications. Participate in all safety-related processes and programs, ensuring zero injuries, and report hazards or concerns to supervisors or safety professionals. Use stop‑work authority when necessary and report accidents or near misses. Participate in pre‑job planning, safety discussions, and hazard identification, taking corrective actions. Follow lockout/tag‑out procedures and site‑specific training. Maintain a safe and clean work environment through effective verbal and written communication. Perform basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of whole numbers and fractions). Coordinate work with other crafts and co‑workers, and engage in on‑the‑job training and mentoring opportunities. Produce quality work that meets plans, specifications, and industry standards. Read and understand plans, specifications, diagrams, and schedules, and visualize two‑dimensional drawings in three dimensions. Assist journeyman in diagramming and installing control equipment, and learn independent layout planning. Identify hazards, report them, and utilize stop‑work authority when necessary. Inspect field conditions, identify problems or cost‑saving measures, and report issues to supervision. If certified to operate construction equipment, ensure proper operation, maintenance, and daily inspections. Comply with company code of conduct and jobsite policies. Preferred Qualifications NCCER Construction Craft Laborer or NCCER Core Curriculum (or equivalent) Craft Training Program. Minimum Qualifications 4001‑6000 hours (2‑3 years) of experience as an electrician or similar craft helper, or a combination of work experience and training that demonstrates knowledge of electrical wiring, conduit, systems, equipment, and fixtures. Testing of electrical systems with appropriate tools and familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC). Required licenses for the jurisdiction where the work will be performed, if applicable. Ability to understand and follow directions; must possess all necessary tools (see Electrician helper tool list). Minimum age 18 years. Successful completion of pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search) within applicable laws and regulations. Certifications NCCER Construction Craft Laborer or NCCER Core Curriculum (or equivalent) Craft Training Program. Work Environment / Physical Demands Lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility required. Repetitive movement with hands for handling, controlling, or feeling objects, tools, or controls. Climb and maintain balance on steel frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. Work up to 12‑hour shifts in varying temperature extremes and outside conditions. Work in cramped spaces and awkward positions. Experience in hot (above 90°F) or cold (below 32°F) temperatures and inclement weather (dust, wind, snow, rain). Work in very bright or inadequate lighting conditions. Exposure to distracting or uncomfortable sound and noise levels. Work around hazardous equipment. Position is safety‑sensitive.
