Gifted Teacher Position
The Gifted Education Teacher is responsible for identifying, supporting, and providing differentiated instruction to students who demonstrate exceptional intellectual and academic abilities. This role focuses on fostering the intellectual growth of gifted students, encouraging creative thinking, problem-solving, and higher-level academic performance. The teacher will work closely with students, parents, and staff to create an inclusive, stimulating, and challenging educational environment that meets the diverse needs of gifted learners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instructional Planning and Delivery: Design and implement differentiated instructional strategies and curriculum tailored to the needs of gifted students, ensuring academic rigor and challenges appropriate to students' advanced abilities.
- Develop individualized learning plans for students, including extension activities and enrichment opportunities that challenge students to grow intellectually, creatively, and socially.
- Provide instruction in both small-group and whole-class settings, fostering a culture of collaboration and intellectual curiosity among gifted learners.
- Assessment and Evaluation: Regularly assess students' academic progress, using both formal and informal assessments to guide instructional decisions.
- Analyze data to identify learning gaps and adjust instructional methods to meet students' evolving needs.
- Provide detailed feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student performance, growth, and areas for improvement.
- Student Support and Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for gifted students, ensuring their unique academic, social, and emotional needs are met.
- Provide academic and emotional guidance to help gifted students navigate the challenges of their educational journey, including developing social-emotional skills.
- Facilitate opportunities for gifted students to explore advanced topics, independent research, and intellectual pursuits.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and administrators to ensure that gifted students' needs are integrated into the broader curriculum and instructional goals.
- Actively communicate with parents and guardians to inform them about their child's progress, provide recommendations for enrichment activities, and offer strategies for supporting their child's development at home.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in gifted education, instructional strategies, and educational research.
- Program Development and Leadership: Contribute to the development and enhancement of the school's gifted education program, including curriculum design, program evaluation, and resource development.
- Advocate for the inclusion and proper support of gifted learners within the school community.
- Assist with identification processes and the placement of new students into gifted programs, ensuring equity and inclusion in the selection process.
- Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
