Post doc in Polymer Biosensors For Advanced In-Vitro Electrophysiology Location: CNST, Milano Commitment & contract: collaboration contract starting from January 2027 Italy Step into a world of endless possibilities, together let’s leave something for the future! At IIT, we are committed to advancing human-centered Science and Technology to address the most urgent societal challenges of our era. We foster excellence in both fundamental and applied research, spanning fields such as neuroscience and cognition, humanoid technologies and robotics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, and material sciences, offering a truly interdisciplinary scientific experience. Our approach integrates cutting-edge tools and technology, empowering researchers to push the limits of knowledge and innovation. With us, your curiosity will know no bounds. We are dedicated to providing equal employment opportunities and fostering diversity in all its forms, creating an inclusive environment. We value the unique experiences, knowledge, backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives of our people. By embracing diversity, we believe science can achieve its fullest potential. THE ROLE You will join the Printed and Molecular Electronic Research Unit coordinated by Dr. Mario Caironi. The research focuses on printed organic micro-electronics for sustainable ubiquitous electronics, edible electronics for healthcare and food monitoring, and for organic bioelectronics for wearables and electrophysiology. The group is currently composed of about 20 individuals, comprising PhD students, postdocs and researchers with diverse backgrounds, from materials science to electronics and device physics. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate aiming to lead the development of new in-vitro electrophysiology tools for high-throughput, high-fidelity electrical recording of cardiomyocytes and to translate their use from the research lab to clinics. The offered position builds on a recent discovery within the group, where printed polymer electrolyte-gated transistors were shown to allow high-fidelity recording of the action potential of cardiomyocytes monolayers (Kyndiah et al., Nature Communications 16 (2025) 8143). The challenge is now to develop this laboratory demonstration into a new electrophysiology device that can be adopted for research on cardiac diseases in clinical settings, ideally combining a patch‑clamp like signal quality with scalability and throughput of micro‑electrode arrays. RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the development of the electrophysiology device Design the tool in collaboration with electrical designers Fabricate the polymer biosensors arrays in the lab by means of various microelectronics fabrication techniques (including solution-based coatings and printing, lithography) Assemble lab‑scale prototypes and collaborate with partners for cardiomyocytes plating and electrical recording Contribute to fund raising targeted to translate the technology to clinical settings Collaborate with the PI to interact with potential final users and stakeholders ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS A PhD in electrical engineering, materials science, or similar disciplines Documented experimental experience with organic electronics and/or bioelectronics microdevices Documented experience in microfabrication Strong publication record Good command of spoken and written English Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment ADDITIONAL SKILLS 2 years of previous postdoc experience in organic bioelectronics would be a strong added value Experience in solution-based processing of organic semiconductors Experience with inkjet printing of functional materials Knowledge of electrolyte gated transistors physics Experience with cells plating Experience with electrophysiology measurements Ability to work in a challenging and international environment COMPENSATION PACKAGE A yearly gross salary ranging between 45.000 € and 55.000 € Private health care coverage Candidates from abroad or Italian citizens who have carried scientific research activity permanently abroad and meet specific requirements, may be entitled to a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% from 6 to 13 years. Application’s deadline: 31/07/2026 #J-18808-Ljbffr
