Job Description
This SCADA Engineer role focuses on designing, developing, deploying, and supporting industrial automation solutions for manufacturing and process industry environments. You will work extensively with SCADA systems, Allen-Bradley PLC platforms, SQL databases, and industrial networks to deliver reliable, high-performance automation solutions. The position involves full lifecycle project involvement, from architecture and design through commissioning, startup, and ongoing production support, while collaborating closely with customers and multidisciplinary project teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support SCADA applications for industrial automation projects in manufacturing and process industry environments.
- Configure, customize, and maintain iFIX and other SCADA platforms to meet project and customer requirements.
- Integrate SCADA systems with Allen-Bradley PLCs and industrial networks, ensuring robust and secure communication.
- Develop and maintain SQL databases, including data collection, reporting, and query development to support operational visibility and analytics.
- Participate in system architecture and design reviews, contributing to technical decisions and project planning activities.
- Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT) to validate system functionality prior to deployment.
- Conduct site acceptance testing (SAT) at customer facilities to verify proper installation, integration, and performance.
- Support equipment startup, commissioning, and integration activities at customer sites, ensuring smooth transition into production.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, communication, and process issues, providing timely resolution to minimize downtime.
- Provide occasional after-hours support for critical production systems when necessary to maintain continuous operations.
- Create clear technical documentation, operating procedures, and training materials for internal teams and customer personnel.
- Collaborate closely with controls engineers, project managers, electricians, and customer stakeholders to deliver successful automation solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance system reliability, performance, and maintainability.
Essential Skills
- 8+ years of industrial automation or controls engineering experience.
- 5+ years of iFIX SCADA development and support experience.
- Strong experience configuring, developing, and maintaining SCADA and HMI systems, including iFIX.
- Proven experience programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley PLC systems.
- Hands-on SQL database experience, including data collection, reporting, and query development.
- Proven experience commissioning automation systems in manufacturing or customer facilities.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills for hardware, software, communication, and process issues.
- Ability and willingness to provide occasional after-hours production support for critical systems.
- Exposure to Ignition SCADA software.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with customers and cross-functional teams.
- Solid understanding of electrical engineering and industrial automation concepts.

Work Environment
This role operates within industrial and manufacturing environments, supporting automation systems across a wide variety of projects and industries. You will work closely with customers, controls engineers, project managers, and electricians to deliver custom automation solutions. The position involves a mix of office-based engineering tasks, such as SCADA development and SQL work, and on-site activities, including testing, commissioning, and startup at customer facilities. Occasional after-hours support may be required to ensure continuous operation of critical production systems. You will regularly work with SCADA platforms such as iFIX, Allen-Bradley PLCs, SQL databases, and industrial networks, gaining exposure to new technologies and technical challenges throughout your career.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Conover, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $60.00 - $65.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
