Summary:

The Philanthropy Specialist supports the philanthropic priorities of Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center and Northern Light Acadia Hospital through strategic donor engagement, relationship management, and community partnership development. Reporting to the Senior Principal and Major Gift Officer, this role manages a portfolio of donors and emerging prospects while helping advance fundraising strategies, pipeline development, and annual revenue goals. This position is intended for an experienced development professional seeking continued growth in frontline philanthropy and major gift fundraising.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, supporting cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and long-term relationship development.

  • Develop and execute strategies to achieve fundraising goals, portfolio performance metrics, and key performance indicators.

  • Conduct donor visits and engagement activities; prepare briefing materials, customized cultivation strategies, and proposals aligned with hospital priorities and philanthropic opportunities.

  • Build and steward relationships with donors, prospects, employees and community organizations to strengthen engagement and advance fundraising priorities.

  • Identify, qualify, and help advance new major gift prospects through strategic relationship-building and moves management.

  • Represent the Foundation within the community to strengthen visibility, partnerships, and philanthropic engagement.

  • Partner closely with Foundation leadership, philanthropy colleagues, and Marketing and Communications to support donor communications, campaign initiatives, and outreach strategies.

  • Maintain accurate donor records, portfolio activity, moves management documentation, and donor engagement plans within the donor database system.

  • Provide strategic support for philanthropy initiatives, donor cultivation activities, proposal development, stewardship efforts, and fundraising priorities.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, discretion, and a strong commitment to donor-centered relationship management and mission-driven philanthropy

Other Information:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in development.

  • Experience supporting donor cultivation and stewardship; exposure to major gift fundraising a plus.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting or coordinating fundraising events.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate with donors, volunteers, clinicians, and community partners.

  • Proficiency with donor management systems; Raiser’s Edge preferred and experience with Canva, design platform.

  • Ability to travel regionally to support donor meetings, events, and community engagement.

  • Ability to work as a team member and maintain flexibility in working non-business hours and weekends to achieve donor satisfaction and program integrity.

  • Ability to prioritize work, multi-task in a time constrained environment, and meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Results driven with the ability to meet program fundraising goals and individual metrics.

  • Ability to successfully cultivate and steward relationships with external and internal audiences.

  • Possess a current driver’s license and must have reliable vehicle for travel throughout the State of Maine.

  • Ability to work early mornings, nights, and weekends, as required for meetings and special events.

  • Self-starter, able to work with minimum supervision.

Education

  • Required Bachelor's DegreeAdvanced degree or a minimum of ten years of dedicated fundraising experience in a variety of roles that represent progressive responsibility in leadership and major gift fundraising.
