Duties/Responsibilities:

·         Performs general nursing care for patients.  Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.

·         Prepares equipment and aids physicians during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.

·         Observes, records and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.  Dispenses medication as directed.

·         Greet patients and prepares them for physician examination, screens patients for appropriate information.  Instruct patients in collection of samples and tests

·         Responds to and refers to incoming telephone calls

·         Instruct patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructions.

·         Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information.  Posts test and examination results.

·         Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials.  Ensure cleanliness.  Prepares list of medical supplies needed

·         Attends required meetings and participate in committees and requested.

·         Maintains patient confidentiality.

·         Other duties as assigned.

  Required Qualifications:

·         Current license as a Practical Nurse in the State of Louisiana.

·         At least (1) one-year, clinical setting, preferred 

Certifications:

·         CPR/BLS

Education:

Associate’s degree in nursing

Required Skills/Abilities:

·         Knowledge of principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.

·         Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.

·         Knowledge of patient education principles to develop self-care programs

·         Skill in using various types of equipment for examination and treatment procedures.

·         Skill in taking vital signs

·         Skill in maintaining records and writing reports

·         Ability to react calmly in emergency situations

·         Ability to interpret and apply guidelines and procedures

·         Ability to interpret and apply guidelines and procedures

·         Ability to communicate clearly
