Nursing Station Clerk/NSC Trainee - Full Time Evening Shift (3:00 PM -11:30 PM)

Position Summary Nursing Station Clerks 1 are assigned to either inpatient or outpatient units where there is daily contact with patients. This team member greets visitors and directs them to appropriate locations; answers telephones; performs data entry activities; maintains daily and clinical logs; prepares, updates, and maintains patient charts and files; fills out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions; mails patient letters; and delivers supplies and records to an assigned unit. This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS program, this title may be filled via a non‑competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications. At the time of hiring, temporary NY HELPS employees may advance to permanent non‑competitive status and later to competitive status without examination. Duties Orient patient and/or family to the unit, providing general information and serving as a contact person. Give information on patient condition within existing policies and direct visitors to appropriate locations. Process physicians’ orders by recording written orders in charts, kardex, flag sheets, or directly into a computer file after review by a Registered Nurse; and by filling out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions. Receive new admissions. Prepare and maintain patient charts, daily log, and clinic log. Qualifications Eligible List Appointment: must be on Civil Service eligible list for Nursing Station Clerk 1. Candidates must be reachable on the list and complete the canvass letter. Provisional Appointment: if no eligible list candidates, a provisional appointment may be considered. Candidates must have one year of full‑time clerical, secretarial, or patient care experience in a healthcare setting and must take the examination when offered. Must be reachable on the resulting eligible list. 55b/c Appointment: position eligible for 55b/c designation, subject to verification. Candidates must possess minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter. Section 70.1 Transfer: candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service in a title approved for transfer to Nursing Station Clerk 1. Minimum one year full‑time clinical clerical or patient care experience in a healthcare setting. Salary and Benefits The salary range for this position is $40,807 – $42,810 per year. The specific salary offer will be based on candidate’s validated experience.
