AI Engineer Leuven (hybrid) We are looking for an AI engineer for our team in Leuven. Somewhere out there, a client is about to ask whether we can't just put an agent on it. You're the one who listens carefully, asks the right questions, and then either builds an agentic system or recommends a different approach when that fits the problem better. Either way, you see it through from the first conversation to the day it runs in production. That covers the agent logic, the Python backend, the data model and, where it helps, the interface. Along the way you join workshops, explain in plain language what an agent can and can't do, and present the result to the client. You also work with coding agents every day, which means you review a lot of code written by something very confident that is occasionally wrong. You know a good pull request when you see one, and you're not afraid to send the other kind back. Summarized: you build agents that work, you say so when one isn't needed, and you can explain both to a client. Is this you? You're eager to work with a stack that moves fast, and you don't mind when today's choice is replaced in six months You're a sharp critical thinker who asks the right questions You keep tinkering with your own way of working, so it's a little better every time You take ownership until it's live in production, and a bit beyond You can tell a client what an agent does and doesn't do, without promising the moon You're happy to join workshops and to present your work to the client Job requirements 3+ years of relevant experience Hands-on experience building agents in code Solid knowledge of tool calling, multi-agent orchestration, retrieval and human-in-the-loop Experience evaluating agent output with traces and regression suites, and a good sense of cost and latency You know when an agent is not the right answer, and you can go from a problem to a fitting agentic architecture You write and iterate on prompts with care as part of building an agent You have a knack for turning a vague client question into something buildable You use coding agents as a matter of course, and you can judge a model's output and reject it when needed You're proficient in both Dutch and English Technical experience Here's what we work with. Experience with these specific technologies is great, but we equally value relevant experience with similar tools and frameworks.
