Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Job Description The FP&A professional is responsible for budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and providing strategic insights to support business decision-making. This role partners closely with senior leadership to analyze financial performance, identify trends, and drive business growth. Position Summary The FP&A professional will play a critical role in driving financial performance, supporting strategic decision-making, and enhancing financial visibility across a ~$200M finance company. This role requires a strong blend of financial modeling, business partnership, and industry-specific insight (e.g., lending, credit, capital markets). You will work closely with the CFO, Treasury, Credit, and Operations teams to manage forecasts, analyze portfolio performance, and provide actionable insights on profitability, liquidity, and growth. Key Responsibilities Financial Planning & Forecasting Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasts (monthly/quarterly). Develop long-range financial plans aligned with company strategy. Financial Analysis Analyze financial results, including variance analysis (actual vs. budget/forecast). Identify key drivers of performance and provide actionable insights. Reporting Prepare and present financial reports, dashboards, and KPIs to leadership. Support monthly close process with finance/accounting teams. Business Partnering Collaborate with department heads to understand business drivers. Provide financial guidance to support operational decisions. Modeling & Scenario Analysis Build and maintain financial models for strategic initiatives. Conduct sensitivity and scenario analysis (best/worst case). Process Improvement Enhance financial planning tools, systems, and processes. Drive automation and efficiency in reporting and forecasting. Liquidity & Capital Planning Partner with Treasury on liquidity forecasting, debt facility usage, and borrowing base analysis. Support capital planning and funding strategies. Management Reporting Prepare monthly/quarterly reporting packages for executive leadership. Deliver variance analysis (Actual vs Budget/Forecast) with clear business drivers. Cost of funds. ROA / ROE. Strategic Finance & Decision Support Build business cases for new products, pricing strategies, and investments. Support M&A, partnerships, or capital raise analysis (if applicable). Conduct scenario and sensitivity analysis (credit stress, rate changes, growth scenarios). Process & Systems Improvement Improve forecasting accuracy and reporting automation. Enhance use of FP&A tools (e.g., Adaptive, Anaplan, Excel-based models). Streamline data integration between finance, servicing, and origination systems. Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field. MBA, CFA, or CPA preferred. Experience Senior Analyst: 3–6 years; Manager: 6–10 years. Experience in financial services, lending, fintech, or specialty finance strongly preferred. Technical Skills Advanced Excel and financial modeling (required). Experience with financial planning tools (Adaptive, Anaplan, etc.). Familiarity with SQL, Power BI, or Tableau is a plus. Strong understanding of loan accounting, interest income modeling, credit metrics. Strong business partnership mindset. Ability to translate complex financial data into clear insights. Detail-oriented with strong analytical rigor. Comfortable operating in a lean, fast-paced environment. Ability to influence senior leadership. Success Metrics Forecast accuracy (revenue, credit losses, expenses). Quality and timeliness of management reporting. Insightfulness of analysis influencing key decisions. Improved visibility into portfolio performance and profitability. Efficiency gains in FP&A processes. Reporting Structure Reports directly to the CFO or Head of FP&A.
