Radiology Technologist

Job Summary This position operates diagnostic imaging equipment to obtain high‑quality digital images of designated body portions for interpretation by physicians. Employment Type Full time Shift Rotating Shift Essential Job Functions Confirms patient identity, checks in patients, and schedules appointments. Creates Radiology Module. Greets and courteously escorts patients and other guests to the examination room. Interprets patient histories and physician instructions. Prepares patients for procedures using aseptic and sterile technique. Positions patients for radiologic examination, selects exposure factors, takes exposure, processes images, and practices radiation protection. Performs diagnostic radiographic procedures using ionizing radiation to produce digitized images. MAY operate diagnostic bone density equipment to obtain images and data per ISCD criteria. Records pertinent information on requisitions. Directly enters medication, laboratory, and/or radiology orders into the electronic medical record according to state, local, and professional guidelines. Responds to patient emergencies as needed. Cleans work area, examination rooms, and equipment; performs limited maintenance. Performs image‑management duties within the PACS system and NextGen. Documents patient information promptly and accurately to ensure continuity of high‑quality health care. Completes checkout duties, ensuring all patient encounter forms are completed thoroughly and accurately. Handles forms in accordance with office and IHA protocols and sends letters and reminders to patients. Serves as liaison between patient and physician when necessary, ensuring timely and courteous follow‑up of patient questions. Maintains compliance with government, reimburser requirements, and clinic standards of care. Provides support to clerical and clinical staff and providers as needed, which may include answering phones, managing messages, completing medical record requests, and operating the fax server/mail system; clinical support roles are outlined in the Clinical Support Staff Scope of Practice document. Performs other duties as assigned and works within the scope of Radiology Technology and/or Clinical Densitometry certification, registration, and licensure. Essential Qualifications Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. For bone‑density imaging: graduation from an accredited school of clinical densitometry technology or equivalent education/experience. Valid CPR certification. Valid registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology. For bone‑density imaging: valid certification by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry or ability to become certified within 90 days of hire. 1–2 years of prior experience helpful but not required. Position Requirements (Abilities & Skills) Knowledge of patient care/radiology procedures and organizational policies related to duties. Ability to practice radiation protection. Proficient in medical terminology. Ability to perform medical calculations needed for job duties. Proficient in operating standard desktop and Windows‑based computer systems—including electronic medical records, email, intranet, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other required software. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proper phone etiquette. Team‑oriented, courteous and friendly demeanor. Ability to work collaboratively with various organizational levels and diverse populations. Ability to cross‑train in other areas of practice to achieve operational flow. Strong organizational and time‑management skills to juggle multiple priorities. Sound judgment and problem‑solving skills. Ability to handle confidential patient and organizational information. Knowledge of compliance aspects of clinical care, patient privacy, and best practices in medical office operations. Successful completion of IHA competency‑based program during introductory training. Ability to travel to other office/practice sites and training locations. Minimum Physical Expectations Keyboarding, phone work, and charting. Extensive time working on a computer. Handling and lifting patients, walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, kneeling, and twisting. Lifting, pushing, and/or pulling over 50 lbs. Lifting, pushing, and/or pulling up to 100 lbs. in some instances. Visual skills including close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust and focus. Manual dexterity for operating keyboards, photocopiers, telephones, calculators, and other office equipment. Adequate hearing and speaking ability for business communication in English. Minimum Environmental Expectations The role operates in a medical facility with regular walking to various locations. The environment includes patient care equipment, blood‑borne pathogens, sharps, x‑rays, and potential exposure to contagious diseases.
