Tenure-Track Associate Professor in Criminal Justice Position Summary: Appointment as an Associate Professor on a tenure‑track basis at Appalachian State University, Boone, NC. The successful candidate will teach a loading of three courses per semester, conduct research, and serve the university community in a variety of service roles. Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related discipline. ABD status is not considered. A J.D. degree alone does not satisfy the qualification requirements. Preferred Qualifications Generalist experience teaching core courses in criminal justice or political science. Demonstrated record of scholarship in a relevant field. Additional Information VISA sponsorship is available for this position. All candidates must be eligible to work and live in the United States. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The teaching load is three courses per semester for faculty with an active research agenda. Teaching assignments will primarily be in‑person at Appalachian State’s Boone campus; opportunities for instruction at the Hickory campus or online may become available depending on program needs. ABD Consideration ABD candidates will only be considered if the successful defense of the dissertation is documented by July 31 (fall hire) or November 30 (spring hire). If confirmation is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a one‑year fixed‑term contract at the rank of Instructor with a reduced salary. Successful completion of the degree before the end of this contract will restore the candidate to the rank of Assistant Professor with full compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
