About the Role:

The Substitute Teacher plays a critical role in maintaining continuity of education by stepping in to deliver high-quality instruction when regular teachers are unavailable. This position requires adaptability to various classroom environments and student needs, ensuring that learning objectives are met effectively. The substitute teacher is responsible for managing classroom behavior, implementing lesson plans, and fostering a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere. They must be prepared to support students across different grade levels and subjects, including special education and differentiated instruction. Ultimately, the role ensures that students continue to progress academically and socially in the absence of their regular teacher.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field preferred.
• Valid substitute teaching certification or licensure as required by the state of employment.
• Demonstrated experience or coursework in elementary education or teaching.
• Basic proficiency in classroom management and instructional techniques.
• Ability to pass background checks and meet all state and district requirements for substitute teachers.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience or training in special education and differentiated instruction.
• Knowledge of sign language to support students with hearing impairments.
• Skills in creative writing and teaching reading to enhance literacy instruction.
• Familiarity with student record management systems and educational technology tools.
• Previous substitute teaching experience in diverse classroom settings.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver prepared lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular teacher or school administration.
• Manage classroom behavior to create a safe and productive learning environment.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of students, including those requiring special education services.
• Maintain accurate student records, including attendance and progress reports.
• Communicate effectively with students, school staff, and parents as needed to support student learning and well-being.
