Product Development Specialist

Astroseal Products is a manufacturer of non-woven metallic mesh used for lightning and shielding protection of composite aircraft and structures. We are currently seeking a Product Development Specialist to join our team. The Product Development Specialist will develop new products and participate in all phases of product development including research, design, production and marketing. Use research on customer demand and industry trends to develop product ideas; build and test product prototypes; evaluate production options and costs.

Requirements:

Essential Duties:

• Perform market research to understand market requirements for new product development.
• Identify the needs of the company and integrating market research to determine the needs and goals of new products.
• Fabricate prototypes for testing.
• Test products throughout the design process to troubleshoot any potential problems.
• Sample different materials, manufacturing processes, design tolerances, and other factors to find the best ones that suit the new product brief.
• Fine-tune designs until they are ready for production.
• Deliver product specifications and procedures to the manufacturing team for production purposes.
• Analyze existing products to identify areas for improvement and updating current documentation.
• Develop quality control criteria and safety guidelines and ensure that all team members adhere to them.

Qualifications:

• A bachelor's degree in product design, engineering or a related field.
• Previous experience in product development.
• Industry-specific product experience may be advantageous, preferably with expanded metals.
• Good working knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and quality control protocols.
• Experience with 3D modeling software and report writing programs.

Knowledge or Abilities:

• Knowledge: Excellent math, the ability to read, understand, and complete production paperwork. Knowledge of machines, tools, production processes, and quality control.
• Language: The position requires the ability to read and interpret and communicate business information and reports. Must have the ability to write clearly and represent the company in a professional manner. Must be able to effectively converse with personnel, customers, vendors and service providers presenting information clearly and responding effectively to questions.
• Teamwork: Collaborating with colleagues to complete projects including patience, active listening and accountability.
• Reasoning Abilities: Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
• Organization Skills: Strong organizational skills, strict attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and prioritize as necessary.

Work Environment:

The employee regularly performs work in a medium production environment where an individual is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration, grease, chips, oil and normal production chemicals and hazards. The noise level in the factory environment can be loud.

Travel to supplier sites frequently (34-66%) is required.
