Aultman Health Foundation Casual - As Needed - No Benefits , Varied Shifts , Varied Legal Entity Aultman Hospital Position Summary The primary purpose of the Paramedic is to assist the RN by proactively performing IV start and obtaining blood specimens from patients for the purpose of testing and analysis, assuring expeditious and safe delivery of all lab specimens, stocking departmental supplies, assisting with selected patient care under the direction of an RN, helping maintain a clean work environment, and transporting patients to various areas of the facility. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Graduate of approved paramedic program. EMT-P license in the state of Ohio. Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required Skills Basic computer skills. Skills to understand the patient's extent of illness or injury. Communication skills to speak clearly about the situation and procedures to patients and healthcare staff. Problem solving skills for quickly understanding the patient's status and symptoms and for administering required treatments. Interpersonal skills to work in teams and coordinate with others to handle stressful situations. Department Skills Perform EKGs. IV insertions and removal. Lab draws. Applying Durable Medical Equipment (DME). Supports other direct caregivers as needed, under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Emergency Room Physician. Cleans equipment/utility room and stocks rooms. Collects specimens and obtains blood glucose according to established procedures and per physician orders and policy. Arranges for transport of specimens to laboratory as appropriate. Performs EKGs, insert IV’s, perform ultrasound guided IV insertions. Places patient on monitor telemetry leads. Transports patients to floor with appropriate monitoring. Perform cardioversion and synchronized cardioversion. Administer medications per scope of practice and Aultman policy. Working Conditions Working hours vary according to departmental needs. Works under the direct supervision of an RN. Lunch periods will be assigned by the Charge RN. Requires full range of body motion which may include handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Category I - Includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for spills or splashes of, or mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids or tissues are Category I tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
