Description

The purpose of the position is to provide nursing services and support to the MCNMC, radiology department and Cardiac Rehab Department. Provide nursing care and patient safety during Radiology exams, including exams done in MRI, CT, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine. Provide technical and professional health care in the cardiac rehab department under the general guidance of a physician to include all duties of a Staff Nurse.

Minimum Qualifications

Education – Current Registered Nurse, RN.

Experience – 3-5 years of relevant experience preferred

Licenses & Certification – Must possess Current State of Oklahoma RN Nursing License. Advanced Cardiac Life Support, ACLS and Basic Life Support, BLS, or within 60 days of hire.

Knowledge & Skills –

• Professional knowledge of nursing care principles, TQM ethics, practices and processes required to assess nursing needs of assigned patients.
• Knowledge of wide variety of medical disorders, normal course of diseases, potential complications and individual therapeutic interventions.
• Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects and complications of their use.
• Ability to recognize and react to emergency situations.
• Knowledge and skill in operation and monitoring of general nursing equipment; e.g. infusion pumps, defibrillators, arrhythmia monitors, etc.
• Ability to develop, implement and evaluate a patient care plan to meet the need of assigned patients.
• The ability to respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient and or unit conditions.
• Maintain continuing education in Cardiac Dysrhythmia's.

Job Summary

Work Environment

Work is performed in a non-ambulatory health care setting. There is common exposure to infectious communicable diseases, potentially hazardous chemicals and bio hazardous materials. The work may include a certain amount of exposure to hostile and emotionally disturbed patients, families and visitors. Must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as requested and required.

Physical Demands

Work in a non-ambulatory health care setting requires considerable walking between work stations and patient care areas. Work requires regular and recurring bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting of patients or similar activities. Incumbent must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Position also requires ability to cope with constant changes in a stress-laden environment.

Essential Functions

Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:

1. Participates in the assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluation (review and revise) of nursing care plan. Evaluates the patient status, interventions, patient response to interventions and updates the plan of care accordingly.
2. Maintains responsibility for continuity of quality care to the patient in Radiology
3. Managing patients throughout the continuum of care before, during and after imaging procedures. Modalities include Fluoroscopy, MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and X-Ray.
4. Assists the Radiologists with procedures & treatments requiring professional nursing skills.
5. Educates & Prepares patients for Radiology Imaging studies.
6. Administers medications per medication administration policy and maintains competency in any new medications related to radiology procedures.
7. Acts as a liaison between Radiology & nursing units.
8. Observes, records, and reports signs, symptoms and responses of patient change in condition or reaction to treatments to the appropriate persons.
9. Provides for emotional support, physical comforts, and safety of patients. Assists with all activities of daily living and personal care needs.
10. Provides follow-up regarding contrast & medication reactions.
11. Provides first-aid and emergency care as well as provides for resuscitation procedures in cardiac and/or respiratory arrest as well as assisting with disaster measures as needed.
12. Shares responsibility in ensuring that the hospital has adequate supplies and equipment, a safe environment is maintained, and general upkeep of the facility is done on a continual basis.
13. Understand fully the principles of exercise and conditioning, such as frequency, duration, intensity, type of exercise, warm-up and recovery periods.
14. Know the medications the participants are taking, the participant's compliance with taking the medication and effects of the medication.
15. Understand the physiologic effects of environmental factors as related to heat and cold and humidity on the body, both during and after exercise, and adjust workload up or down as appropriate.
16. Be aware of the pre-exercise habits of the exercise participant as they relate to eating, drinking, clothing and activity.
17. Monitors emergency equipment.
18. Regular attendance is required.
19. Performs other duties as assigned.
