Subchapter Lead, Head of Pathology

Subchapter Lead in Clinical Development – Head of Pathology Based in Tucson, AZ, this role leads a world‑class team of pathologists to shape the future of diagnostics and targeted cancer therapies. The incumbent provides strategic and scientific leadership while overseeing pathology operations for more than 100 new and existing product development initiatives annually across Primary Antibodies, Special Stains, Digital Pathology, Companion Diagnostics, and Instruments. Key Responsibilities Drive people leadership and development by mentoring and fostering the professional growth of a highly specialized team of pathologists and team leaders. Provide medical oversight for day‑to‑day Path Lab activities. Serve as the pathology subject matter expert within the Companion Diagnostics & Oncology business unit, ensuring scientific rigor and clinical relevance in all assay development programs. Guide the team in the development, validation, and implementation of complex assays using IHC, ISH, IF, multiplex, digital pathology, and AI‑driven image analysis. Partner closely with life‑science companies, clinical trial teams, regulatory bodies, and internal R&D stakeholders. Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging pathology technologies to maintain a market‑leading position. Qualifications MD with US Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology. 10+ years of people management and leadership experience within a pharmaceutical, diagnostics, or major academic/medical center environment. Deep expertise in oncology pathology and hands‑on experience with tissue‑based biomarkers (IHC, ISH, multiplex). Strong familiarity with development processes including digital pathology workflows, image analysis tools, Clinical Case and CAP/CLIA workflows, and CDx development. Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Compensation & Benefits Expected salary range: $255,900–$475,300 (Tucson, AZ). A discretionary annual bonus may be available.
