The field-based Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is responsible for supporting the safe and effective use of Boston Scientific Interventional Oncology and Embolization (IO&E) therapies. This role communicates complex medical and scientific information to health care professionals and provides field medical intelligence and insights to internal stakeholders. The MSL is responsible for internal and external training across Boston Scientific IO&E therapies and autonomously manages an assigned territory, developing and growing medical activities and initiatives to achieve key medical objectives. Territory: Northeastern U.S. Work model, sponsorship, relocation: This is a remote, field-based role supporting the Northeastern U.S. territory. The position requires extensive travel throughout the assigned territory and additional travel as business needs require. Boston Scientific will not offer sponsorship or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position at this time. Relocation assistance is not available for this position at this time. Your responsibilities will include:
• Build, maintain and manage effective professional peer-to-peer relationships with contracted external experts (EEs) and key opinion leaders (KOLs), engaging in bidirectional scientific and educational exchange.
• Identify and understand medical and scientific barriers that may influence patient outcomes, with a focus on ongoing research, newly published evidence, changes in practice patterns and alternative therapies.
• Communicate the clinical evidence story by presenting the totality of evidence in a balanced, nonbiased manner. Inform health care professionals (HCPs) about clinical evidence and accurately communicate key evidence gaps.
• Execute medical plans by communicating technical and clinical data supporting new products and/or new indications.
• Create territory plans to identify early users who can provide meaningful clinical insights.
• Provide medical and scientific support for EEs speaking about Boston Scientific products at medical meetings and congresses.
• Support peer-to-peer education programs through speaker identification and ongoing support.
• Investigate and gather field medical intelligence and insights that may affect therapy safety and efficacy, clinical and R&D strategies, and competitive activities.
• Develop strategies to gain insights from a diverse set of stakeholders and communicate those insights to internal stakeholders in a clear, coherent and informative manner.
• Identify clinical insights and knowledge gaps and articulate the potential impact and magnitude of findings.
• Provide medical and scientific congress support by communicating accurate information and ensuring timely follow-up.
• Attend key congress sessions and communicate relevant medical and scientific knowledge to internal stakeholders in a clear and informative manner.
• Develop and execute KOL engagement plans for medical congresses.
• Apply advanced literature-searching and curation skills to address medical information requests from HCPs and provide thoughtful, medically sound assessments in a timely manner.
• Use medical information appropriately to build KOL relationships and deliver relevant medical insights to the business.
• Assist the Boston Scientific Clinical Development team with company-sponsored clinical trials, including clinical trial site identification, site initiation, protocol education and ongoing support.
• Identify key issues that may accelerate or inhibit patient recruitment, quality data collection or patient retention.
• Recommend research sites capable of delivering strong patient enrollment and high-quality data.
• Support principal investigators and provide current information that may improve patient recruitment and/or data quality.
• Provide medical insights and updates on key findings affecting study performance.
• Through scientific exchange, identify novel investigator-sponsored research (ISR) ideas and clearly articulate Boston Scientific's strategic interests and how proposed concepts align with the strategy.
• Evaluate novel research ideas that could significantly affect patient care.
• Support investigator-initiated research and study programs by identifying and championing innovative ideas, facilitating study startup and providing ongoing consultation.
• Provide quarterly updates to senior leadership on study progress and medical and scientific insights, including major milestone accomplishments.
• Proactively engage HCPs to provide on-label product and procedural training for Boston Scientific IO&E therapies.
• Provide education and training for patient-specific cases, including patient selection criteria, dosing, device setup and deployment, and methods to mitigate adverse events. This includes real-time procedural training during patient cases.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for medical education and internal training courses.
• Provide product and disease-state education and training support to Boston Scientific Commercial and R&D functions related to technical, medical and scientific information.
• Provide refresher training to users who are not achieving desired outcomes. Qualifications: Required qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a medical scientific or clinical role involving frequent interactions with health care providers.
• Ability to apply advanced technical principles, theories and concepts and contribute to the development of new principles and concepts.
• Demonstrated track record of solving complex medical and scientific problems and developing innovative solutions.
• Ability to develop advanced medical, scientific and clinical ideas and guide their development into final deliverables.
• Demonstrated experience creating, managing and completing medical- or scientific-related projects.
• Demonstrated scientific and medical acumen.
• Clinical acumen gained through patient care experience or experience working within a complex health care delivery system.
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory and within the U.S., up to 75%, including overnight and weekend travel. Travel outside the assigned territory may be required for conferences and internal training.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Physical ability to operate interventional instrumentation.
• Willingness and ability to work within and outside traditional business hours. Preferred qualifications:
• Terminal degree in a clinically related area, such as a PharmD, Ph.D., M.D., DO or DNP, or an advanced degree in a health care-related discipline, such as PA or NP.
