Lecturer in French Literature

The Department of French and Italian at Stanford University is seeking applications for a lecturer in French literature. The Department is part of the Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages, a consortium of departments that collaborate on curricular and research initiatives. We seek a candidate to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including introductory survey courses that focus on the literature of the 18th century or 19th-20th centuries. The ability to teach gender studies, film, or novels in Francophone or colonial literatures and cultures is also highly desirable. This will be a two-year full-time appointment. We anticipate a start date of September 1, 2026. Candidates must demonstrate strong scholarship and excellence in teaching. Superior proficiency in French is required, along with advanced proficiency in English. The candidate will be expected to teach six literature courses per year in French and English. A PhD in a related field and teaching experience at the college or university level are required. The expected salary range for this position is $66,600 - $91,190.
