Assistant Controller

Job Description We are looking for an Assistant Controller to work for our client. The ideal candidate aligns with the responsibilities and qualifications outlined below. This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to take on a key leadership role supporting the Controller and strengthening the organization's accounting operations, in a hybrid role based in Columbus, OH. Responsibilities
- Support the Controller in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger and month-end/year-end close
- Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Help manage the annual audit process, including preparation of supporting schedules and documentation
- Support the development and maintenance of internal controls across the accounting function
- Review account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and reviewing their work
- Identify and help implement process improvements within the accounting function
- Step in for the Controller on key deliverables and decisions as needed
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including some supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and month-end/year-end close processes
- Experience supporting or participating in external audits
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a hybrid work environment
- A clear runway toward the Controller seat for the right person
- Real involvement in audit strategy and internal controls design, not just execution
