Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on each resident’s plan of care and physician orders. Provide therapeutic interventions to improve communication skills, including speech production, language comprehension, expression, and voice quality. Administer dysphagia therapy and recommend appropriate diet textures and liquid consistencies to ensure safe swallowing. Conduct clinical swallow evaluations and collaborate on instrumental assessments (such as MBSS or FEES) when indicated. Provide cognitive‑communication therapy to address memory, attention, problem‑solving, and executive function deficits. Supervise, coordinate, and direct the work of Speech‑Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) and clinical fellows as applicable. Explain procedures and treatments to gain residents’ cooperation and allay apprehension. Monitor and document resident progress, modifying treatment plans as needed to achieve optimal outcomes. Maintain residents’ medical records with thorough documentation of evaluations, treatments provided, progress notes, and response to therapy. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including dietary and nursing staff, to ensure continuity of care and successful achievement of rehabilitation goals. Educate residents, families, and staff on communication strategies, swallowing precautions, and techniques to maintain progress after discharge. Recommend and train residents on the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices and assistive technology as needed. Observe emotional stability of residents, express interest in their progress, and prepare them for continuing care after discharge. Perform other duties as required to provide exceptional care to each resident. What You Need Active unencumbered licensure as a Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP) in Virginia. Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology from an accredited program. Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC‑SLP) from ASHA preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Highly organized and detail oriented. Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
