The Associate Premium Auditor conducts workers' compensation premium audits by reviewing policyholder financial and operational records to accurately determine final earned premium. This entry-level role is designed as a two- to three-year development program that builds practical premium audit, workers' compensation, and underwriting knowledge through hands-on experience, training, and application of established rules and procedures.

Roles, Responsibilities, and Priorities

Major Areas of Accountability

• Audit Execution
  • Review policyholder financial and operational records to determine accurate premium base exposures in accordance with the policy contract, applicable manuals, rules, and procedures.
  • Analyze payroll, sales, subcontractor, and other supporting documentation to verify exposure information and identify items requiring clarification or follow-up.
  • Prepare clear audit findings and supporting documentation that explain premium adjustments, classification decisions, and audit conclusions.
• Compliance & Quality
  • Apply NCCI regulations, company guidelines, and established audit standards to support accurate, consistent, and well-documented audit outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate audit documentation and follow established review practices to support quality assurance, consistency, and regulatory compliance.
• Customer Engagement
  • Communicate with policyholders and agents to explain the premium audit process, clarify exposure classifications, and maintain positive service-focused relationships.
  • Respond to policyholder and agent inquiries with professionalism, empathy, and timely follow-through to support a positive audit experience.
• Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
  • Support timely audit completion through effective workload management, due date tracking, and coordination with internal business partners; identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen audit operations, and support consistent service delivery.
  • Assist with department initiatives, workflow improvements, and cross-functional projects that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service outcomes.

Education and experience

• A CPCU or Bachelor's degree. Minimum of 1 year of workers' compensation premium audit or underwriting experience preferred. CPCU and/or APA preferred.

OR High School Diploma with a minimum of 4 years workers' compensation premium audit experience.

• Underwriting experience may be considered with demonstrated competencies in NCCI rules and classifications.
