Position Summary

The Department Orthopaedics at the University of North Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time academic orthopaedic surgeon with specialization in hand and nerve surgery to join our Upper Extremity Service. The Department of Orthopaedics includes 34 faculty members who provide the full array of clinical orthopaedic services. This position will be a primary appointment in the Department of Orthopaedics.

The clinical focus for this position will be hand, micro, and nerve surgery. Hand fellowship-trained applicants are encouraged to apply. The clinical position includes taking general orthopaedic call for the practice and will also include hand trauma, elective hand surgery, general reconstructive surgery, and microvascular reconstruction of the upper extremities.

Faculty members must possess a desire to commit to the missions of the Department and School of Medicine, including the clinical, education, and research missions. Regarding the education mission, faculty members are expected to regularly participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Regarding the research mission, a commitment to any one of a broad array of research interests is desirable, including but not limited to clinical, outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or global surgery research. Regarding the clinical mission, faculty members must be committed to delivering high quality clinical care that is of value to the patients of UNC. Selected candidate must be team-oriented and have the ability to interact well with colleagues inside and out of the Department. Outreach to our many rural referring hospitals is highly encouraged.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• DO, MD, or equivalent.
• Completion of a one year Hand Fellowship.
• Board Certified or Board eligible in Orthopaedics.
